Prime Target Season 1 Episode 6 Review: The Last Link

Reviews

Prime Target Season 1 Episode 6, “The Last Link,” is another subpar episode, which is disappointing after the show revealed it could put out a decent episode with Prime Target Season 1 Episode 5, “House of Wisdom.”

“The Last Link” is slow and not particularly memorable, aside from a handful of scenes. The episode is primarily about Ed and Taylah’s partnership falling apart, which we all knew was coming.

The tension between Ed and Taylah is present throughout, and it slowly increases as Ed becomes more and more aware of Taylah’s lies of omission. This rift between them is part of the reason why their scenes aren’t as enjoyable; it’s hard to have fun watching them pull a heist or con a front desk worker when we know their relationship is fraying.

However, it is a nice change of pace to see Ed and Taylah do something that isn’t math-heavy.

Taylah’s skillsets are allowed to shine through a bit more, and we see Ed a bit outside of his element. He’s forced to follow her lead and rely on her. Aside from correctly identifying which piece they are looking for, they don’t do anything that requires Ed’s expertise.

This helps highlight how much Ed does need Taylah in this venture. Yes, he’s focused on the math and claims there’s nothing inherently good or bad about his discovery, but the real world is after him because of the math.

He doesn’t understand the magnitude of the situation he’s found himself in — I mean, he still had his phone — and it’ll be interesting to see if Prime Target Season 1 Episode 7, “Prime Finder,” features Ed immediately getting taken by the NSA or if he’ll be in some other kind of trouble before Taylah/the NSA can rescue him.

As I mentioned in my review of “House of Wisdom,” the show is juggling a lot of “bad” guys, and we really haven’t gotten much clarification as to what is going on. There are only two episodes to go, and we’re no closer to understanding the players.

Andrew references the pressure he and Jane are facing now that they’ve become involved with private money (likely meaning the Kaplar Institute), but that’s the only new development we get.

There are still a lot of questions we need answered. At this point, I’m mentally preparing myself to be disappointed with whatever conclusion we get.

Stray Thoughts
  • Taylah’s speech to Ed at the end, saying how she’s traveled continents to keep him safe so he can pursue his dream, is romance-level stuff. I loved every bit of it.
  • Taylah is right to call out Jane on her shifting priorities. The NSA needs to figure out what it wants to do with Ed — protect or kill.
  • Ed somehow took forever to figure out the Taylah and Jane rift and then also put it together rather quickly.
