Ghosts Season 4 Episode 10 Review: The Not-So-Silent Partner

Ghosts, Reviews

It’s always a good time when the ghosts force Jay and Sam to commit crimes.

Ghosts Season 4 Episode 10, “The Not-So-Silent Partner,” perfects the lazy Sunday afternoon energy that can take the edge off a long day. Its chaos is a serene toe dip into comedy as the spooky sitcom returns with a relaxed parlay of conflict and light conversations to salivate over.

The quieter moments tap into a comforting rhythm of supportive and harmless observations that showcase how well Woodstone’s yappy peanut gallery works.

It’s great to see Mark become more central to the mansion’s conflict. He’s no longer just the soundboard for lousy news; now, he is the conflict to be solved, and that’s progress.

However, it would be nice to see the stakes higher for this Mark-centric conflict. Kelsey’s scheme wraps up rather effortlessly and with little fanfare. It feels like we’re sacrificing a piece of this episode’s greatness to keep the ghost secret from Mark a little longer.

That said, I think all conflicts should be solved through improv moving forward.

It’s shocking that Pete hasn’t thought to pull this trick out of his dorky tool belt yet. The way he gathers the troops so effortlessly to help wrap this lie up with a nice little bow is quite impressive.

We all know the best Ghosts episodes feature lots of TV time and niche pop culture takes (also Sas, but we let that slide this one time). So, starting this outing with a group couch session indicates what greatness lies ahead for the gang.

The assumption that all information from the internet is false because Thorfinn got the wrong Sex and the City character on one of those BuzzFeed quizzes is incredibly accurate. Oh, how we need a montage of Sam taking those quizzes with the ghosts!

We also learn that the ghosts have entered their teen drama era, specifically the Canadian teen drama era. As a Canadian, I appreciate that deep-cut discussion about milk in bags.

The cherry on top of this episode’s hot pop culture takes?

When Hetty finds out she’s Irish, Trevor tries to comfort her with his beautiful, bizarre love language. He only knows the way to her heart through sex and objectification. So he seeks out the hottest Irish actors as a way to comfort her, and dammit, if that’s not adorable Tretty canon to embrace.

To sweeten the deal, Ghosts finally revisits Hetty and Thorfinn’s lifelong bond from Season 1.

It’s a connection shoved to the side and rarely nurtured with the proper awareness. So what a delight it is to see Thor be the one to take on the burden of knowing Hetty is Irish and turn it into a moment of tenderness between them as he reminds Hetty he will always look out for the little girl who befriended him.

His speech about witnessing many people throughout history hate each other when we are the same is a much-needed sentiment with the current political climate. Following it up with a punchline about Danes having cabbage for brains is perfect comedic foresight.

Almost as much as making Hetty, a woman of clear Irish descent, so prejudiced towards the Irish from the jump. Wisocky’s wail of despair when she learns the news is well worth the wait.

Ghosts, you more than sailed away with this one!
