Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 13 Review: Born of Fire
For a very long time, Molly’s has been the heart and soul of the Firehouse 51. Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 13, “Born of Fire,” further proves this as Hermann asks everyone to chime in as he works on creating a new signature cocktail.
As he begins to look into expanding Molly’s, he knows he cannot do it without the help of his team. Molly’s is a firefighter pub, and to stay that way, it needs that firefighter touch. The Born of Fire cocktail perfectly represents who they are and what makes that bar so special.
The feeling of missing Molly’s signature cocktail creation and being with his friends also places Carver in a dilemma.

Throughout Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 13, “Born of Fire,” Carver struggles with his alcohol recovery. While he is doing well attending meetings and staying sober, he is stuck between wanting to go down the right path and hanging out with everyone at Molly’s.
Keeping his alcoholism a secret makes us, as viewers, witness the rawness of his emotions and the dilemma he is stuck in. He wants to do and be better, but he misses the life he used to have without realizing his friends (his found family) can actually help him get stronger.
Because of this dilemma, he has isolated himself and falls for Lee’s charm. Carver doesn’t want to be alone, so he turns to someone who’s been showing red flags from the beginning. Even when Lee displays those red flags by pretending to be Carver to stay out of jail, Carver continues to trust him because he needs someone to turn to.
For a moment, the show makes us believe that following down Lee’s path, Carver has relapsed. However, he manages to stay sober, proving to himself that he can spend time with his friends even while in recovery.
It isn’t until he must run to save Violet that he realizes this. However, this situation forces him to talk about his recovery when he isn’t ready. But maybe having Violet and the rest of the firehouse know what’s going on helps him stay clean.

Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 13, “Born of Fire,” shows how far Violet has come as a paramedic and person. When confronted with Lennox’s return after he tried to get her fired, she becomes the bigger person and chooses to help him.
Instead of doing what he would have done in the past, she leaves behind her preconceptions of who he is and sees the case for what it is. This is the only way she can see if Lennox followed protocol.
He makes it very clear that she is the only one who can save him, but she doesn’t choose to help because of a God-like complex. She decides to help him because she realizes that his mistakes don’t have to define who he is now.
Lucky for Lennox, Violet is smart, knows her protocol, and understands what each machine means for each patient and the medication they’re given.
This maturity and knowledge also allow Violet’s compassion for Carver to shine. She can understand what he is going through, put their friendship first, and be there for him because he really needs to have people in his corner.

Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 13, “Born of Fire,” isn’t your typical action-packed episode, but it still works within the show’s boundaries. There’s only one call this episode that the squad answers to. Even though it is an easy call, it is an impressive one.
What also stands out is that the show adopts the fandom’s Stellaride nickname, making it a common way for the rest of the team to refer to Stella and Severaide. Stellaride fans will be happy with that nod to them and the fact that they are moving forward with the idea of adopting a kid.
Hopefully, that will continue to be explored before the season ends.
