What If…? Season 3 Trailer Showcases X-Men’s Storm, Gundam Avengers, and Wild West

In a multiverse of endless possibilities, all threads lead to What If…? Season 3, the Marvel Studios series’ final season.

Today, Marvel Studios and Marvel Animation released the official trailer following the company’s panel at D23 Brazil. What If…? Season 3 premieres on Sunday, December 22, on Disney+. New episodes will debut daily for eight days.

The trailer provides a closer look into the universes that will be explored, including Shang-Chi in the Wild West, Maria Rambeau becoming Captain Marvel, and much more. However, there’s one particular character that was heavily teased in the end: Storm.

What If…? Season 3 marks the official Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Ororo Munroe, codename Storm. In addition, it’s confirmed that Alison Sealy-Smith, who portrayed the powerful mutant in X-Men ’97, will reprise her role.

Based on the trailer, it appears that Storm will be able to wield the powers of Thor. She even calls herself the “Goddess of Thunder.” It’s likely that her story will involve some Asgardian shenanigans, as seen in previous episodes.

Additionally, it has been confirmed that Poker Face‘s Natasha Lyonne will voice an original character — Byrdie. The character appears similar to Songbird, an antihero connected to the Thunderbolts in the comics.

Outside of Storm’s debut, the trailer also featured fan-favorite characters, including Agatha Harkness, Moon Knight, and Sam Wilson’s Captain America. Adding to that list of characters are Captain Carter and Kahhori. The latter made her Marvel debut in What If…? Season 2.

The description also teases that this adventure will see “classic characters make unexpected choices that will mutate their worlds into spectacular alternate versions of the MCU.”

Given the acquisition of 20th Century Studios, which includes the X-Men property, it’s likely other X-Men characters could appear.

However, given that What If…? Season 3 is the show’s final season, the chances of such characters could also be minimal. Nevertheless, the third season is going all out by involving more Watchers, who are out to stop Uatu’s intervention.

What If…? Season 3 episodic directors include Bryan Andrews and Stephan Franck, with writers Matthew Chauncey, Ryan Little, and A.C. Bradley.

Executive producers include Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, and Bryan Andrews, with co-executive producer Matthew Chauncey and producers Danielle Costa, Carrie Wassenaar, and Alex Scharf.
