Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Episode 10 Recap: Who Won the Mirrorball?!

Dancing with the Stars, Recaps

Dancing with the Stars finished out another season with a three-hour finale full of memorable performances, but only one winning couple: Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson.

But there was a lot more to this finale than just finding out the winner! On Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Episode 10, the final five couples performed “redemption dances” that allowed them to re-do routines from earlier in the season to show how far they’ve come.

Then, they performed the much-anticipated freestyle routines.

Throughout the night, there were also returns from previous cast members this season. Everyone came back, and several performed a little as well.

Tori Spelling and Anna Delvey both returned for a brief performance, after which Julianne threw some shade at Anna by saying she “had nothing.”

Reginald VelJohnson also performed a fun routine surrounded by other dancers to the theme song from Family Matters. It even included a nod to the classic sitcom’s opening credits.

Last year’s winners — Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy — returned for a special routine as well.

In addition to those cast member returns, Mark Ballas also made a special appearance, performing a groundbreaking routine with Derek Hough. The two shared the history of the Argentine Tango and how it was traditionally performed with two men.

Then, they performed their own, marking one of the most unforgettable moments of the night.

As for the routines themselves, there were plenty of memorable moments there as well.

All of the redemption dances were excellent, showing how much each of the dancers has learned over the course of the season. Of course, it was the freestyle routines that everyone was looking forward to, and they didn’t disappoint. Every contestant did something special and personal.

Stephen and Rylee did an unforgettable freestyle that showed off Stephen’s skills in gymnastics. Bruno said it was “athletic and artistic at the same time,” and Carrie Ann was nearly speechless and in tears over how great it was. They earned a score of 30/30 for the dance.

Joey and Jenna then did a tennis-themed freestyle that, while Carrie Ann said was underwhelming, Derek and Bruno both praised greatly. They earned a score of 29/30.

Perhaps the most memorable dance of the night was the Barbie-themed routine from Danny and Witney. They went all out for it, from the costumes to the music and the characterization. They earned a score of 29/30.

Ilona and Alan followed with a routine to the song, “Femininomenon,” that Carrie Ann said was an example of “the magic of dance.” It was an elaborate routine that truly showed off how far Ilona has come. They earned a score of 30/30 for the routine — their first perfect score of the season.

Chandler and Brandon rounded out the final round of the competition with a routine that celebrated the fact that they are the first Black couple to ever make it to the finals on Dancing with the Stars. It traced the history of dance from Black performers, and the judges praised it for its importance and, of course, its quality. They earned a score of 30/30.

Five remaining couples meant it was even more difficult to guess who might win this year. (No one was sent home during the semi-finals, a move that the show has made two years in a row now.)

Alfonso and Julianne announced where everyone landed, coming down to the final two with the highest combined scores from last week and this week (that’s four total dances, plus two weeks worth of votes).

Those two were Ilona and Alan and Joey and Jenna, with Joey and Jenna being announced as the winners.
