Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 10: My Best Friend’s Wedding

Only Murders in the Building, Reviews

Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 10, “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” is a solid season finale. It manages to wrap up Sazz’s murder, deliver some heartwarming moments, make us laugh, and set the scene for Season 5.

There’s no denying that overall Only Murders in the Building Season 4 was disappointing, but at least it ends on a decent note.

There’s no last-minute twist with Sazz’s killer, instead giving our trio time to process the events, hear Marshall out, and rescue Mabel from him with the help of Eva Longoria’s multi-tool.

Aside from Vince and Rudy providing a ding-dong assist, it’s just our trio at the end of the day, facing down a killer. It’s perfect.

Charles, Mabel, and Oliver are why we tune in, and it’s fitting that their bond is highlighted in this final episode.

On top of that, it’s sweet to see Charles and Oliver putting themselves in a dangerous situation to rescue Mabel. Sure, they probably could’ve workshopped a better rescue plan, but they didn’t hesitate when she needed them.

Charles: You know, every time we solve a murder, that’s when the next body drops. It’s like when one murder door closes, someone we know either gets stabbed, poisoned, or shot.

The only thing that would’ve made this better is if we got to see more of Mabel and Marshall. We don’t get to see him drop the facade and turn into this ruthless version of himself.

Us finding out by Charles and Oliver getting the text is an okay way to break the news, but Marshall’s transition from a dorky writer asking Mabel for help to holding her at gunpoint would have been better.

It would have provided us with some good tension, and we could have spent a little more time seeing the unhinged version of Marshall, as well as seeing how Mabel initially reacted. Plus, perhaps, there could have been a bit more time spent hearing Marshall’s initial “escape” plan.

Marshall fluctuates between being a pro sniper and a kid way over his head. This is part of the reason why it would have been better to spend more time with him after he sees Charles’ text on Mabel’s phone because it’s hard to get a read on him.

To be honest, I had forgotten that Jan was still on the loose. There was so much going on this season that she surprisingly managed to stay under the radar, making her return work pretty well.

She got to avenge Sazz, and her taking the shot got our trio out of a tough spot.

Our trio are not murderers, and so there is a moment where you wonder how on Earth they would get out of that apartment alive. My theory was that Rudy and Vince called the police or kicked down the door, giving our trio time to incapacitate Marshall until Detective Williams or the FBI arrived.

Speaking of the FBI, they are brought in to solve the case on Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 3, “Two for the Road,” kicking Detective Williams off of it, and then we never hear about them again.

Did they do any investigating? It is a weird thing to introduce and then completely ignore.

Sadly, the season ends with Lester being the latest victim on the Arconia property. It’ll be interesting to see how Only Murders in the Building Season 5 manages to shake things up as far as the season’s big case goes.

Charles and Mabel being approached to take a case that somehow has everything to do with the Arconia could be a good twist to throw into the trio’s investigation next season. What do you make of Sophia’s job offer?

Stray Thoughts
  • It would be great if Mabel could have some real direction in her life next season. Maybe she’ll become a PI?
  • Admittedly, I had no idea who Sophia was talking about when she approached Charles and Mabel with a job offer.
  • I do want to re-watch Madam Secretary now though.
  • Uma is not going to be pleased that there’s been another murder in the building.
