Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 3: Two for the Road

Only Murders in the Building, Reviews

The new in-training trio comes to shadow our trio as they continue their investigation on Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 3, “Two for the Road.”

After our trio met their Hollywood counterparts on Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 1, “Once Upon a Time in the West,” we were hoping that they would cross paths again. The new trio showing up to shadow Charles, Oliver, and Mabel right when they begin to interview murder suspects is the perfect timing.

I feel like I’ve said this in just about every review this season, but Only Murders in the Building is having a lot of fun mixing things up, and, so far, it’s all been done successfully.

Each actor and original trio pair brings a different energy to the episode and the original trio’s task at hand. Eugene and Charles’ approach is very different than Mabel and Eva’s, although it’s safe to say that Eva is in a category all to herself when it comes to her more aggressive approach.

Admittedly, Charles and Eugene trying to get Vince to remove the eye patch is a little boring, but suffering through that to get to Eugene getting punched in the face is completely worth it. I may have immediately hit rewind, so I could watch that moment again. It’s too good.

In addition to the actors attempting to be useful to our trio, they also offer some insight that perhaps Charles, Oliver, and Mabel would rather not hear.

It’s a way to showcase some characterization in a blunt, straightforward way from people who are trying to get inside each of their brains to understand them better. Mabel seems to get a bit of encouragement from Eva’s words, and it’ll be interesting to see how this whole experience changes our trio if it does at all.

I do still prefer it when our trio investigates together, and hopefully, we get back to that soon. The final scene of the episode with them all in Mabel’s new living space is wonderful and reminds us of how great those three are together.

As far as the investigation goes, our trio makes some solid progress thanks to Howard and his notes from listening to the radio. The secret communication adds a bit more complexity to this investigation.

It’s still unclear what any of it has to do with Charles and/or Sazz, but we are still early in the season.

Stray Thoughts
  • I miss Grave-y.
  • Detective Williams being a Zach Galifianakis fan is amazing.
  • Also, I need her to interact with the new trio when they are all in character.
  • Will an FBI investigator start talking to the trio? That could be fun.
  • Eva going all intense on Christmas tree guy is fantastic
