Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Adds ‘Prey’s Amber Midthunder

The human side of the Monsterverse is being explored even further as a new star has been cast on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2.

Variety exclusively reported that Prey headliner Amber Midthunder has joined the series in a recurring role. According to Variety‘s description via TV Insider, Midthunder will play Isabel, an “intelligent and powerful businesswoman.” Her character’s affiliations currently remain unknown.

Midthunder recently starred as Princess Yue on Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series. However, her more notable credits include Hulu’s Predator prequel film, Prey, and Roswell, New Mexico.

Midthunder’s casting for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 comes seven months after the series was renewed for its latest season, which is currently in production. Apple TV+ also announced intentions to expand the Monsterverse through multiple spinoffs.

The first season followed two perspectives connected by Army officer Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), who was seemingly killed on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1 Episode 10, “Beyond Logic.”

One of these perspectives followed siblings Cate (Anna Sawai) and Kentaro Randa (Ren Watabe). Set after the events of 2014’s Godzilla, they slowly uncovered the mystery behind Monarch, the organization responsible for tracking Kaiju like Godzilla and King Kong.

The other followed scientists Keiko (Mari Yamamoto) and Bill (Anders Holm) with Officer Lee Shaw as they traveled the world to discover the secrets of Hollow Earth.

Kiersey Clemmons, Elisa Lawoski, and Joe Tippett rounded out the cast of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1.

Speaking about Monarch: Legacy of Monsters‘s renewal, Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+, said that the series “left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds, and imaginations of audiences around the world.”

“We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse,” he added.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was co-created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction.

Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville, and Jen Roskind serve as executive producers with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., who licensed the Godzilla character to Legendary Pictures for the Monsterverse series.
