The Last Of Us Season 2 Teaser Trailer Features a Look at Joel’s Consequences
The teaser trailer for the highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us has been released.
The events in the second season take place five years after the first season’s conclusion on The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 9, “Look for the Light.” The second season will consist of seven episodes covering the events of the second game, The Last of Us Part II, which was released in 2013.
“After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind,” per the official synopsis.
The Last of Us Season 2 is set to premiere in 2025. The new trailer features a first look at new cast members Catherine O’Hara, Isabela Merced, Jeffrey Wright, Danny Ramirez, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, and Kaitlyn Dever, who will play key roles in the upcoming sophomore season.
The new trailer and key art by Greg Ruth celebrate The Last of Us Day, which occurs annually on September 26. Otherwise known as “Outbreak Day,” the event marks the date “on which the cordyceps virus catalyzed the events of The Last of Us,” according to HBO.
The trailer starts with Catherine O’Hara’s unnamed guest-starring character asking Joel (Pedro Pascal) to tell everything from the beginning. It cuts to Ellie (Bella Ramsey) wandering around a new town, where they seem to have made their home, as there is a mailbox with the name Miller on it.
It is winter now, and Joel and Ellie bond over musical instruments and seem to be at peace. The trailer then introduces Dina for the first time, who is Ellie’s romantic interest in the video game. As previously reported, HBO cast Isabela Merced in the role in January 2024.
The Last of Us trailer briefly shows Isaac Dixon (Jeffrey Wright), who seems to be torturing someone. Eeriness fills the trailer as the clickers attack the town with a voice-over asking Joel to confess what he did.
The new footage then shows Abby, portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever, mourning over a lost loved one. Her loss is a reminder that Joel’s actions at the end of the first season will have consequences.
Based on the video game of the same name, The Last of Us was HBO’s second-biggest premiere since 2010. It received 24 Emmy nominations, including acting nominations for its stars, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. The series won a total of 8 Emmys for its first season.
Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann return for the second season. Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells are executive producers.
