Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 Adds Miya Cech as Toph
Team Avatar’s master earthbender has finally been found and is ready to join the team in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2.
During Geeked Week 2024, per Netflix’s TUDUM, it was announced that You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah‘s Miya Cech has joined the series as Toph.
Rounding out Aang’s companions as a fan-favorite character, Toph serves as one of the team’s more experienced element benders.

According to Deadline, Netflix opened a casting call for the character in June, given the show’s previous announcement of a two-season renewal. In the call, Toph is described as “sassy, confident, and unfiltered” and has suppressed her abilities for most of her life.
This correlates to Nickelodeon’s animated counterpart, on which Toph was sheltered by her overprotective, high-standing parents because she was born blind. She would eventually go on the run and hide with badgermoles, whom Toph called “the first earth benders.”
Given the similarities between the casting calls for the animated show and the live-action series, Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 may hit the same narrative points.
The Netflix series has a serialized tonal shift, so it’s possible that Toph’s origins and future involvement could be adapted for posterity. This could include important moments such as Toph learning how to metalbend, training with Aang, and fighting the Dai Li.

Even though Season 2 is in its early stages, Netflix’s TUDUM reports that Cech is preparing to portray Toph.
“I’ve been in boot camp for about a week and a half now and still have a lot of work to do,” Cech told TUDUM. To prepare for Toph, Cech is also working “with a producer and consultant, who is blind and a professional from the blindness community, to make sure the blindness community is represented appropriately.”
The actress has yet to see Toph’s full aesthetic and costume. Nevertheless, Cech remains excited for the final product to hit screens.
During the event, Netflix also announced that Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 has begun production. The production teaser hints at a stronger focus on the Earth Kingdom, which Season 2 of the Nickelodeon show also does.
