Riverdale’s Camila Mendes Joins ‘Masters of the Universe’ Film as Teela
Camila Mendes has landed the role of Teela in the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe film adaptation.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the casting for the upcoming film was high profile and that Mendes was screen-tested along with Clara Rugaard, Alexandra Shipp, and Quintessa Swindell.
Camila Mendes is known for her breakthrough role as Veronica Lodge on The CW’s infamous teen drama Riverdale.

Since Riverdale‘s conclusion in 2023, Mendes has starred in multiple films, notably Netflix’s Do Revenge and Prime Video’s Upgraded. Mendes will be seen next in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.
For Masters of the Universe, Mendes will star opposite the previously announced Nicholas Galitzine, who will play He-Man. Mendes’s character, Teela, is a warrior responsible for protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam, aka He-Man, as Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard.
Per Variety, Masters of the Universe has endured an extensive two-decade journey to the big screen. The Mattel Films project was set up at Warner Bros. and Sony before moving to Netflix, which axed the film in 2023. Finally, Amazon MGM acquired the rights, and production has been moving forward ever since.
Deadline reported that Galitzine was cast as He-Man back in May 2024.

“We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man and joining forces with director Travis Knight, Mattel, and Escape Artists, this reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia,” Julie Rapaport, head of development at Amazon MGM, said at the time.
Centered on the battle between the heroic He-Man and the evil Skeletor, the Masters of the Universe franchise was introduced through popular action figures in 1982. The animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe became one of the first children’s programs to be syndicated on television.
Several other film and television adaptations followed, and today, the franchise lives on via toys and video games.
The upcoming Masters of the Universe‘s main plot is being kept under wraps. Travis Knight is directing from a screenplay by Chris Butler.
