Red, White & Royal Wedding: Everything We Know So Far

Features

Two years after the Red, White & Royal Blue film took the world by storm, a sequel to the film has finally been confirmed.

Last year, Prime Video confirmed that a follow-up film was in development, even though the first movie already covered all the source material. The streamer recently confirmed that the movie has been officially greenlit, titled Red, White & Royal Wedding.

Passionate fans of the novel and its movie adaptation have already started speculating about what the upcoming sequel could potentially cover. After all, everyone wants to know where Alex and Henry’s love story is headed!

Here’s everything we know so far about Red, White & Royal Wedding:

So far, the exact plot details for Red, White & Royal Wedding have been kept tightly under wraps. However, there are some clues as to what the film might cover.

Red, White & Royal Blue ended with Alex and Henry confirming their relationship to the entire world and watching Alex’s mom win re-election together. In typical rom-com fashion, they managed to overcome all the obstacles and find their happily ever after.

From just the title, it seems this sequel will follow Alex and Henry as they prepare to tie the knot, or at least to see someone important to them get married.

Regardless of which option plays out, there will likely be a time skip, perhaps a couple of years after Red, White & Royal Blue ended.

Again, it’s hard to predict what Red, White & Royal Wedding will cover since the original book’s source material was used for the first film. But whatever is in store for Alex and Henry will surely be even more exciting than what we can imagine.

One of the most exciting parts of Prime Video’s recent announcement about the sequel is the confirmation of the director, Jamie Babbit.

Babbit has gained recognition for directing the iconic queer film But I’m a Cheerleader and has experience directing series like Only Murders in the Building and A League of Their Own.

Given Babbit’s familiarity with queer media, it’s safe to say Red, White & Royal Wedding is in good hands. Plus, her thirty-plus years of experience with directing both film and television make her the perfect pick for handling this follow-up movie.

The writing team for this film is just as powerful, with Matthew López, the writer of the first movie, returning. Additionally, Casey McQuiston, the original Red, White & Royal Blue novel author, and Gemma Burgess, a writer who worked on My Lady Jane, are listed as co-writers.

Having McQuiston on board is going to be an absolute game-changer. Since they were the original creator of the beloved characters and story, McQuiston’s creative input on Red, White & Royal Wedding will ensure the movie doesn’t stray too far from their original vision.

Not much has been shared about the cast of Red, White & Royal Wedding. However, the two most important roles have been confirmed: Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez are returning as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz.

Galitzine is known for his roles in films like The Idea of You and Bottoms, as well as for starring in the mini-series Mary & George. Zakhar Perez is best known for starring in The Kissing Booth movies.

While it’s fantastic that the lead actors are returning, we still do not know which supporting actors from the previous film will return. It would make sense for the sequel to also include Rachel Hilson as Nora, Sarah Shahi as Zahra, and Ellie Bamber as Beatrice, since they played vital roles in the story.

In addition, let’s cross our fingers that this second movie brings back the iconic Uma Thurman as Ellen Claremont, the president of the U.S.A., and Alex’s mothers.

Although Red, White & Royal Wedding was announced in development in spring 2024, Prime Video only announced the movie had been greenlit in October 2025. This means the movie is likely in pre-production at this point.

It’s impossible to predict when the movie will begin actual shooting and production, especially since it largely depends on the actors’ availability. However, given that the script appears to be written or is in the final stages of the writing process, we can roughly estimate the timeline.

Shooting could start as early as spring 2026 or as late as fall/winter 2026. But assuming filming begins at some point next year and factoring in post-production, there’s a good chance Red, White & Royal Wedding comes out mid-2027.
