Will Trent Season 3 Adds Gina Rodriguez as a Series Regular
Will Trent will have a new ADA among its ensemble when it returns for Season 3.
Deadline exclusively reports that Gina Rodriguez will join the crime drama as Marion Alba. The character is described as “a charismatic, confident Assistant Distrcit Attorney new to Atlanta,” per the description, via TV Line.
“After her first encounter with Will falls flat, the pair is surprised to learn that they must work together to investigate a crime in the world of Atlanta gangs.”
Gina Rodriguez joins the series after a five-season run as the lead of The CW’s Jane the Virgin. More recently, Rodriguez starred on ABC’s paranormal comedy Not Dead Yet.
The network canceled the latter after two seasons in May 2024.
Rodriguez’s Marion Alba joins the series after Will and Angie’s relationship ended on Will Trent Season 2 Episode 10, “Do You See the Vision?” in May 2024. Will had Angie arrested for tampering with evidence int he Lenny Broussard case.
ABC renewed the drama for a third season in April 2024.Will Trent Season 3 isn’t expected to premiere until 2025, where it will be part of ABC’s midseason line-up. It will air alongside new seasons of The Rookie and The Conners.
The series is based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling Will Trent books. Will Trent follows Ramón Rodríguez, who also co-executive produces the show, as Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
He was “abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Now, Will uses his unique point of view in the pursuit of justice and has the highest clearance rate in the GBI,” per the show’s synopsis.
Will Trent also stars Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchel, and Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood.
Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, and Oly Obst executive produce the series.
