Apple TV+ is bringing Laura Lippman’s 2019 novel, Lady in the Lake, to the screen for a seven-episode limited series.

The series stars Natalie Portman — who also serves as an executive producer for the series — and Moses Ingram as two women from Baltimore in the 1960s. Portman plays Maddie, a Jewish housewife and aspiring investigative reporter.

Maddie begins looking into the death of a woman named Cleo Johnson, played by Ingram. Johnson had been a mother living in a Black neighborhood of Baltimore caught up in the city’s political underbelly while trying to support her family.

The more Maddie looks into Cleo’s death, the more obsessed she becomes, putting herself and those around her or those connected to the case in danger.

Y’lan Noel, Brett Gelman, Byron Bowers, Noah Jupe, Josiah Cross, Mikey Madison, and Pruitt Taylor Vince star alongside Portman and Ingram in the series.
