Ben makes his biggest leap yet on Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 7, “A Kind of Magic.”
After a brief hiatus, Quantum Leap is back with a new episode that lands Ben in colonial Massachusetts, tasked with saving a young woman from allegations of witchcraft.

This isn’t the first time the accelerator has sent Ben back in time more than a century. On Quantum Leap Season 1 Episode 5, “Salvation or Bust,” Ben was sent to the Wild West in the 19th century. That leap was quite a shock to the team since they had assumed that Ben couldn’t travel beyond his lifetime.
Ben traveling back to a time decades before he was born is not news to the team anymore. Still, this leap is over a century further back than that trip to Salvation and will present a whole host of new challenges.
Namely, there are few surviving records from that time and practically no digital information that would offer insight into individuals or smaller historical events. That lack of information will certainly make guiding Ben through his latest mission difficult.
Check out the photos and promo video below for a preview!
Episode description: Ben leaps back to 1692 — the farthest he’s ever been — where he finds himself on trial for practicing witchcraft. With limited records online, the team must race to save him before he’s put to death.

I usually enjoy the new Quantum Leap, but this episode was unwatchable. The historical inaccuracies were jarring. Where do I begin? Middle Towne looked like a 19th-century Wild West town. An internet search would reveal what a 17th-century New England town looked like. Salem executed one in ten of the accused supposed witches, mostly by hanging. None were burned. That particular punishment happened in Europe, mostly in Germany. There were a number of bizarre, unpassable witch tests administered in Salem, which would have more interesting as plot devices than how the story was written. Sadly, a big fail on this script.

Yeah, I thought it was one of the show’s weaker episodes for sure, especially coming off Secret History which was a much stronger episode. I think the next episode will right the course though. It looks like a good one to end the first part of the season on.
