Avatar: The Last Airbender Unveils First Look at Arden Cho, Danny Pudi, & More in Character

Netflix has released new photos showcasing the iconic characters of their upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Deadline reports the sneak peek at the series is to celebrate the Winter Solstice. After announcing the reimagining of the Nickelodeon animated series in 2018, the eight-episode debut season premieres on Thursday, February 22, on Netflix.

TV Line reports the six new photos provide first looks at Arden Cho as June and Danny Pudi as The Mechanist. The images below also feature Gordon Cormier as Aang, Sebastian Amoruso as Jet, Maria Zhang as Suki, Tamlyn Tomita as Mayor Yukari, and Casey Camp-Horinket as Gran Gran.

Showrunner, executive producer, and writer Albert Kim was a fan of the source material, and according to Entertainment Weekly, Kim was both excited and nervous to tackle Avatar: The Last Airbender since it is beloved worldwide.

Entertainment Weekly shared that “the team’s goal was to remain true to the original spirit of the animated series, while delivering a massive, sweeping fantasy epic” that brings the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender to a new generation.

The star-studded live-action cast also includes Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh, along with Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai and Amber Midthunder as Princess Yue.

Netflix released the first teaser for Avatar: The Last Airbender last month. Jabbar Raisani and Michael Goi are executive producers and directors alongside directors Roseanne Lian (also a co-executive producer) and Jet Wilkinson. Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore are executive producers from Rideback.

Series synopsis:

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang, a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.
