Alexander Skarsgård to Star on ‘Murderbot’ on Apple TV+
Martha Wells’ beloved book series, The Murderbot Diaries, is getting the TV treatment, expanding the genre fare on Apple TV+.
The streaming service announced the new series Murderbot, an adaptation of the award-winning novels by Wells from Paramount Television Studios.
Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz are set to write, direct, and produce the series, with Alexander Skarsgård leading the cast. Skarsgård will also serve as executive producer alongside the Weitz brothers.

The 10-episode Murderbot series follows “a self-hacking security android who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable ‘clients,'” per its official synopsis.
“Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.”
The first novel in the series, All Systems Red, was published in 2017, detailing the origin and exploits of the titular self-hacking android. The seventh novel debuted in November of 2023.
Skarsgård’s prior credits include a critically acclaimed turn on Succession and Big Little Lies.

Murderbot will be produced under the Weitz brothers’ company, Depth of Field. Andrew Milano will also be on board as executive producer. David S. Goyer will again collaborate with Apple TV+, boarding the project as executive producer along with Keith Levine under Phantom Four.
Award-winning author Martha Wells will also round out the production team, serving as consulting producer for the series.
Murderbot will join the streamer’s growing genre roster, including For All Mankind, Silo, Foundation, recent addition Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and more.
The series has not yet received a premiere date.
