STAR WARS: AHSOKA Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Part Six: Far, Far Away

Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Part Six: Far, Far Away

Uncategorized

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being covered here wouldn’t exist.

With the exception of some fun character appearances, Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 6, “Part Six: Far, Far Away,” drags on and doesn’t add much in the way of plot to the overall story.

The more this show continues, the more we start to see plot holes and pieces that don’t feel like they will be satisfactorily explained by the end of the series — which only has 2 episodes left. While it’s great to see all these characters we know and love already, it doesn’t help to put them in situations that back them into a corner.

On Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 5, “Shadow Warrior,” I commented on how the writers used space whales to defeat the wall they’d backed Ahsoka against when Sabine gets taken by Baylan and Shin while she whiled away in the world between worlds. Now, on “Part Six: Far, Far Away,” the writers seem to have done the same thing once again.

Far, Far Away Isn’t Easy to Come Back From

I am specifically talking about the issue brought up by Thrawn when he dismisses Sabine to the wilderness of Peridea to find Ezra. He tells her that once he leaves the planet, there will be no other way for her to escape.

Initially, it seems like maybe Ahsoka and Huyang coming to Sabine’s rescue means they will be able to bring her back with them. That is until Baylan mentions that the space whales only come to Peridea to die.

This raises a gigantic red flag about the plot of saving the galaxy from Thrawn and rescuing Ezra, which has been the goal all along. If Ahsoka arrives before Thrawn escapes, but he still thwarts her, then how will Ahsoka and Huyang be able to navigate their ship back to their galaxy?

With only two episodes left, the concept that Ahsoka, Huyang, Ezra, and Sabine will be stuck on Peridea with Shin and Baylan doesn’t seem extremely far-fetched. And while that’s not the worst way to end things, it seems counterproductive to the reason Ahsoka and Sabine set out in the first place.

Who knows, maybe the writers will pull something else completely outlandish out of their hat that will bring these characters back home.

Seeing the beloved Ezra in live-action has the same satisfying effect that seeing Ahsoka, Sabine, and Hera for the first time did. In fact, most viewers probably had to take a moment to soak him in as the reality sets in that he’s actually alive and well.

Not only that, he’s living with these alien turtle-type creatures that seem harmless and sweet. It’s a wonderful family reunion moment that gives us reason to actually care about this episode as a whole.

Meanwhile, seeing Thrawn in person is much more intimidating and menacing than anyone else could’ve predicted. He has this way about him that proves his soft voice is much more dangerous than initially thought.

The visuals of a live-action Thrawn exceed expectations and allow the audience to feel the malevolence he exudes just by looking into his red eyes. This man is dangerous, and his ten minutes on screen are the only things that actually matter on Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 6, “Part Six: Far, Far Away.”

He proves once and for all that he can’t be trusted by anyone, not even his closest companions, because they’ll all be fuel for the fire to get him out of exile in the end. Not even Morgan is safe from being cast aside should Thrawn feel it necessary.

Grand Admiral Thrawn looks out for one person, and that is himself. He doesn’t care for the safety of anyone else helping him as long as he remains safe.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Having a show about Ahsoka air an episode that is almost entirely without her is disconcerting
  • Huyang saying, “A long time ago. In a galaxy far, far away,” sends chills down my spine.
  • Hearing Baylan talk about the Jedi Order and its folktales makes me think that maybe he’s not as separated from the Jedi as he claims to be
  • It’s nice to see more of Baylan and Shin’s dynamic as they discuss her training and what Baylan knows about the planet they are on.
