David Berry Talks ‘Outlander’ Season 7, Teases a ‘Different Dynamic’ Between Lord John and Jamie [Interview]
The relationship between Lord John Grey and Jamie Fraser has always been complicated, but Outlander Season 7 will see it become even more so. (You can see a hint of this in the sneak peek clip below.)
I recently spoke with David Berry, who plays Lord John, during a virtual press junket with members of the Outlander cast, about what we can expect from the relationship between the two men in the upcoming season.
Not only is the war going to complicate their relationship, but the introduction of adult William will make things interesting as well.
“We’re going to see those two have a different dynamic to their relationship. At the beginning of Season 7, we see a fracture in their relationship. They find themselves on opposite sides of the war, and have also adult William coming into the mix,” Berry said.
“As the season progresses, I think we’re just gonna see this relationship deteriorate further as they find themselves on opposite sides. And then other interloping factors come in and make that relationship even more complicated in very, very interesting ways.”

We also spoke about the love that Lord John and Jamie have for each other, and though Berry joked that their romance is the real reason people watch the show, he also noted that it’s “one of the most enduring romances in the show other than [Jamie and] Claire.”
“Lord John has loved Jamie through all kinds of situations — situations where he probably shouldn’t. And I think we’re coming to a point where Lord John really needs to wake up to himself and maybe set some clear boundaries.”
