Not Dead Yet Season 1 Episode 9 Review: Not Scattered Yet
Picking a loved one’s final resting spot can be overwhelming. On Not Dead Yet Season 1 Episode 9, “Not Scattered Yet,” that’s true for both the characters and the audience.
Monty is the first ghost the show introduced us to, and between getting to know his widow, Cricket, and the couple chances we’ve had to see him again, his presence has always been welcome.
We may wonder why he’s stuck around where no other ghost has, and long after his obituary has gone to print. When Cricket comes to ask Nell and Edward for help scattering his ashes in the perfect location, my first thought is whether it means we’ll never see him again.

Before we can worry about that, we must worry about what the perfect location could be. Multiple people of have input, from Monty himself to the psychic Cricket earnestly trusts—and let’s just say that these two influential parties don’t see eye-to-eye.
How can Nell advocate for Monty without revealing that she speaks to him? Realistically, she can’t. The truth might not come out here, but it can’t stay hidden forever. With the potential drama in its wake, it feels like a season finale sort of reveal.
I might begrudge a delay of the inevitable, but I’m not upset about why Nell opts to let Cricket’s gut override the urge to interject with Monty’s opinion. In the end, the psychic is right. There’s a gift in reassuring people about what they believe about those they’ve lost.

ANGELA E. GIBBS, MARTIN MULL, GINA RODRIGUEZ
It’s Edward who technically saves Nell from spilling the beans just yet, asking the all-important question of why Cricket chose her perfect spot. The scenes that follow prove she’s right. We’ll just hope a ghost can spend an eternity on the beach without getting sand in his shoes.
So, does this mean we’ll never see our departed friend again? Monty tells Nell that she can come to the beach if she wants to talk to him in the future, but this is also as good an opportunity as any for him to go “on”. I guess we’ll just wait and see.
The rest of the ensemble is again relegated to the episode’s B plot, though this is one of the stronger ones. Dennis and his husband are ready to raise a child, and Sam and Lexi offer their dubiously appreciated opinions on who should be an egg donor.

JOSH BANDAY, RORY O’MALLEY
We haven’t seen as much of Dennis as we have of Nell’s female besties, and I hope seeing such a big chunk of his personal life is a sign that’s going to change. Unsurprisingly, though, the choice he faces is even more wracking than whether to reveal that one can see ghosts.
The whole “constructing a perfect baby” thing is correctly identified as being weird, and the couple decides to adopt after only about a day’s worth of drama. Dennis may need to work on his indecisiveness, but here it works as a sign.
We probably won’t see a baby until season 2 should the show be renewed. And apart from my relative confidence that Nell’s ability will come to light, I’m not at all sure what else we’ll see before then. Where would you like to see these characters go?

I’m in no hurry to see her power get revealed. There will be plenty of time for that, if it is done at all, assuming it gets renewed.
Fingers crossed.
