After her departure from the series on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 24 Episode 9, “And A Trauma In A Pear Tree,” Kelli Giddish is set to return for the Season 24 finale.

Per TVLine’s report, Giddish will be reprising the role of Amanda Rollins for Law & Order: SVU Season 24 finale and Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 3’s penultimate episode.

However, Rollins’s comeback will surprise everyone. As Deadline confirms, she returns to the screen pregnant with her third child.

The last time Amanda Rollins was seen on the show, she had decided to take a step down from Manhattan SVU to choose a different career path as a professor.

This opportunity came to her through her husband, Assistant District Attorney Dominic “Sonny” Carisi, who suggested it might be a good change of pace after she was shot on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 24 Episode 1, “Gimme Shelter — Part 2.”

Before leaving Law & Order: SVU, Amanda married Carisi with the team as their witnesses, proving she had grown as part of the squad and that was her family.

Amanda Rollins’s exit happened five months after Giddish announced she was departing the show after 12 seasons.

In a statement, she thanked Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay, and the rest of the team. Giddish announced she was excited to take what she had learned on set to new projects.

“I wanted to address the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on Law & Order: SVU,” Giddish wrote in a statement provided by NBC, per Variety.

“Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the Law & Order family for the last 12 years. There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins,” she said.

“She’s grown and changed, and I have as well. I started on this show when I was in my late 20s and I’m grateful I got to spend so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life,” Giddish added.

Giddish’s appearance on Season 3’s penultimate episode won’t be the first time Rollins shows up on Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Amanda jumped to Elliot Stabler’s team for the last time during Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 3 Episode 5, “Behind Blue Eyes.” She was helping the team as they investigated the involvement of cops in a rape case.

The news of Giddish’s return comes days after it was confirmed that Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime have been renewed for another season.

Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime air on NBC and stream on Peacock.
