Servant Season 4 Episode 8 Review: Tunnels
Leanne versus Dorothy has always been this show’s destiny. Servant Season 4 Episode 8, “Tunnels,” removes the men to allow the women to start a potentially deadly game of cat and mouse.
There is no saving Leanne. Therefore, we have no clue how dark things will become with Sean and Julian out of the house.
Servant has really been turning the horror elements up to another level this season. Leanne is terrifying, and the show really embraces its horror dramedy label.

It’s been bringing its horror A-game.
The last 5ish minutes of “Tunnels” are very frightening, especially when Leanne attacks Julian and Sean. The moment just grows in intensity with Sean and Julian’s looks of horror, Leanne’s creepy singing, and then the image of her walking towards them. It’s beautifully horrific.
It’s going to be exciting and scary to see what Leanne plans to do now that she is alone with Dorothy.
However, Dorothy isn’t a weak lamb walking calmly to her death or eternity with Leanne — which is basically the same thing.
If Leanne wants to fight, Dorothy will accept the challenge.

“Tunnels” continues the show’s glide to the apocalypse. The floods begin now. The next phase can only regenerate Leanne more.
The signs of the apocalypse have been fascinating to watch, but I assume that Leanne is causing them. Therefore, it surprises me that they are coming as a way to combat her.
Her existence causes the apocalypse, not her using her powers to bring it. This makes her death even more necessary to stop the end of the world.
I just don’t know if that can happen.
As nice as it could be to see Leanne fight her way from the darkness, I fear that she is gone completely. Leanne is not redeemable.

Therefore, it really comes down to whether she will take Dorothy to hell with her (or force her to spend eternity with her in this crumbling world). And it feels like the answer may be yes to either option.
George’s final attempt to stop Leanne is noble but completely misguided. Clearly, this is not going to end well for him.
Rest in peace, George. You constantly made situations worse but you were an interesting antagonist to Leanne.
Julian and Sean believe too easily. Yes, George completely convinces everyone of his lies, but maybe don’t get overly confident about attacking someone who you once thought may possess powers.
I feel bad for them for getting so severely beaten by Leanne, but it’s kind of their fault. Sean and Julian’s plan isn’t smooth or clever. Don’t casually betray an unstable girl or demon.

Leanne has had the upper hand over Sean, Julian, and Dorothy all season.
Therefore, the only way to defeat Leanne may involve emotional manipulation or a sacrifice from Dorothy.
She may need to sacrifice herself to get Leanne to do the same. Otherwise, things look very grim as we head into the Servant final episodes.
Nell Tiger Free has been doing a great job showing layers to Leanne. Sometimes, she’s this young girl who just wants love. Other times, she’s declaring her invincibility and challenging a higher being.
It’s a nuanced performance that allows us to see the humanity that still exists within this dangerous figure.

However, “Tunnels” marks a turning point for Leanne. The Sean and Julian betrayal means that she has completely lost them.
Because she has nothing now — except maybe hope of keeping Dorothy — she can fully embrace her evil.
Hell hath no fury like a Leanne scorn. Let the end begin.
Overall, “Tunnels” continues Servant’s spiral into madness. It’s a really compelling episode that ends in a satisfying and scary manner.

Stray Thoughts
- Servant makes me like George a little bit in these last few episodes, so his death kind of hurts, even if it’s inevitable.
- I wonder how Jericho plays into the final endgame. I have a feeling that he has a bigger role than I expect.
- Leanne’s final words to Sean are menacing. You know she completely means it.
- Sean and Julian are really a great comedy duo. The conversation about tricking Leanne is very funny.

IMO Leanne is a metaphor for the severe grief that has impacted Sean, Julian and most of all Dorothy surrounding real Jericho. Her presence has always come with strange accidents, the foundations of the house crumbling, a catalyst for mistrust and secrets… so now that metaphor has reached a boiling point. Sean and Julian can’t keep it up anymore and now Dorothy must reckon with the truth. Leanne is the manifestation of each of their demons and now there’s no stopping her so the truth MUST come out. Dorothy won’t get rid of her unless she accepts what happened and takes responsibility.
