Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 14 Review: Trapped
Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 14, “Trapped,” delivers one of the best episodes the show has aired in a while. Celebrating one of its biggest milestones, it also takes the time to celebrate how far Kim Burgess has come.
By keeping Torres out of the episode, the show gives the audience the core cast, those who (with the exception of Upton) have been around since the beginning. This episode is also the most Trudy Platt has been around in a long time.
200 episodes is outstanding in this day and age of television, and still Chicago P.D. manages to keep us entertained with a good case and incredible storyline.

It has been obvious since she was shot that Kim has been dealing with PTSD. However, she was able to cover it up until “Trapped” starts with a panic attack right in front of Adam and her daughter.
This pushes Adam to encourage Kim to get help, but said help won’t work until Kim wants it for herself. Something that is delivered towards the end of the episode.
When Burgess is meeting with the therapist, she explains what PTSD truly is and how it can affect people. By explaining it isn’t always a panic attack in the middle of the day, the therapist is painting a picture of Burgess’s situation for her and for the audience.
A picture that becomes clearer as the episode goes on and Kim continues to struggle with anxiety, panic attacks, and flashbacks of her shooting.
As Kim finds herself trapped on the train, Chicago P.D. makes us viewers feel the anxiety, tension, and fear by playing with the lights. The dark blue inside the train and the flashing lights outside set the perfect environment to make Kim’s panic attack obvious.
Pairing those light games with her “no” and the blood all over her mimicking her gunshot wound only make this moment more tense. This scene let’s us know how difficult the case will be for Burgess.

Another perfect scene in which Chicago P.D. makes it very clear that Kim is struggling beyond the case is when she finds herself trapped in the well with the little boy.
The camera work becomes blurry to allow us to experience how Kim is seeing everything around her as she tries to push through another panic attack. It also helps that the space is small and dark, how she must be feeling in that moment.
She is, like the name of the episode points, trapped in a well and the only way out is pushing through her fear. Not only does she have to climb the ladder to get out, she has to overcome her emotions to make sure she survives and she helps the little kid survive as well.
It is the action of pulling herself out of the well, making it to the top, and saving herself that indicate Kim Burgess is going to be okay. There is a long healing road ahead of her, but she is choosing to save herself.
She mentions to the therapist that she needs to do it for her daughter, for Adam, and for her job. After all, she has been a cop for ten years (since the very beginning of Chicago P.D.) and she doesn’t want to lose that part of herself.

“Trapped” is a celebration of 200 episodes, but it also feels like a celebration of the Intelligence Unit.
During this episode, Chicago P.D. proves this unit is a family and they will always have each other’s back. Adam shaking his head when Kim chooses to push through after the kid dies in her arms shows how worried he is about her.
Trudy immediately asking Kim if she is okay shows how much she cares about this woman. They have all been there during the toughest times, and they aren’t going to give up now.
But above everything, “Trapped” celebrates how far Kim Burgess has come. From that young woman in uniform who was so frustrated when Voight didn’t pull her into his team first to a dedicated cop and mother.
Burgess has overcome many challenges and that is exactly why she has become such an important character and a key component on the show.

“I’m trapped, but I can’t be trapped,” is one of the last things Kim says on Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 14, “Trapped.”
Hopefully, as the season moves forward, Burgess will continue to get the help she deserves. One thing we can be sure of, is that Adam will always be by her side. Maybe this is another step in the right direction for their relationship.
Come what may, the Intelligence Unit is a tough team that can surely make it 200 more episodes.

I love Chicago pd!!! Not that many great shows on tv anymore. So sick of reality show. I think all main characters are great actors but boy Kim is an incredible actor you really feel what she is going through. The episode she was shot in was great acting and trapped was incredible! But even on a normal show I really believe her actions when she displays her incredible instincts in every show. She deserves some sort of award. The whole cast does great show!!! Please keep it up Chicago pd.
