Big Sky: Deadly Trails Season 3 Episode 13 Review: That Old Feeling
It’s the end of the road for Big Sky: Deadly Trails and Reba McEntire’s Sunny Barnes on the Season 3 finale, Episode 13, “That Old Feeling.”
For me, that old feeling is relief. I’m happy to see this season and this story come to a close. It’s been slow-going with unnecessary detours and squandered potential.
It’s so unlike the previous two seasons that kept up action and wacky storylines along personal ones. It seems as though Season 3 has lost itself in the “Deadly Trails” of it all.

Which is a major bummer—I kept living in denial that the season as a whole was proving to be a giant misstep in the Big Sky franchise. Although, I believe it can survive just like Walter comes through getting his head bashed repeatedly with a rock.
And just in time to forge a brotherly relationship with Cormac. Their smiles to each other at the end provides a really sweet moment after all the violence.
But in survival updates, most important to make it out on the other side of the finale alive is Donno, and that good news doesn’t end there. Tonya was able to get them the crypto money and the two have a very frank conversation about what they are to each other and what that kiss meant on Season 3 Episode 12, “Are You Mad?”

While Tonya stalls with “it’s just a kiss,” it is still a significant step in the right direction for this ‘ship, and just as significant as that kiss being Donno’s first.
Donno: It was like my first time at Tim Horton’s. There was a maple glaze and then Bavarian cream.
Another ship that’s moving at a glacial pace is Jenny and Beau. There is clearly something there between them; and you know what, I actually appreciate the slow burn for some reason. And it appears to be a theme because Cassie and Cormac end the season with something along the lines of “just a kiss,” too.
There is quite a bit of relationship drama that can show up in the next season, and that will be okay as long as the main mystery is strong and more tightly written than this “Bleeding Heart” case.

This cold case is an interesting one that took uninteresting paths. Buck is sadistic, sure, but tamer somehow than past villains like Ronald Pergman from Seasons 1 and 2.
Sunny killing Buck and willingly going to prison for it is a cool callback to when Merilee Legarski killed her husband in the first season. It’s too bad Sunny and Buck’s story lacked engaging content.
All this talk about kisses and the dramatic goodbye forever kiss from Sunny to Buck holds absolutely no weight.
I know what I’d like to see in a fourth season, however, I can’t speculate much since Season 3 is such an abberation in the overall scheme of the Big Sky series.
I am rooting for it, though.

“I believe it can survive just like Walter comes through getting his head bashed repeatedly with a rock.” Well said (how the heck was he still alive?). I thought overall the bleeding heart killer plot was a letdown and felt crammed in. I’m so relieved Donno is still alive though. I hope if we get a S4 we see more of Jenny and Cassie teaming up. Beau is a nice addition but they should have kept him in a supporting role like they did Mark.
Totally agree. We need more Jenny and Cassie together for sure.
