This premiere date is later than some expected. For instance, Showtime Networks president of entertainment Gary Levine told Vulture in January that Yellowjackets Season 2 was eyeing a 2022 premiere.

“We are working towards a premiere at the end of 2022,” Levine said.

“We’d love to stay on an annual cycle. I think our audiences deserve that, and I also think that when you have a show that has this kind of a momentum, you don’t want to let it dissolve,” Levine added.

The Showtime series, created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, is described as “equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story, and coming-of-age drama.”

Yellowjackets follows a high school girls’ soccer team involved in a plane crash “deep in the remote northern wilderness.” The series also depicts the characters 25 years later, “tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together.”

Showtime shares that Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell have joined Season 2 as series regulars, alongside Elijah Wood in a season-long guest arc.

Variety reports that Ambrose will portray the adult version of Vanessa “Van” Palmer, played by Liv Hewson. Per Deadline, Simone Kessell joins as the adult version of Lottie Matthews, played by Courtney Eaten.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wood will play Walter, “a dedicated citizen detective who will challenge present-day Misty in ways that she won’t see coming.”

Lyle, Nickerson, and fellow showrunner Jonathan Lisco serve as executive producers. Yellowjackets is produced for Showtime by studio Entertainment One (eOne). Drew Comins of Creative Engine also serves as executive producer.
