The Santa Clauses Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Chapter Six: A Christmas To Remember

Reviews, The Santa Clauses

If we judge The Santa Clauses Season 1 Episode 6, “Chapter Six: A Christmas To Remember,” by whether or not it gives us a happy ending, the answer will be that the episode delivers. It is happy, joyful, and full of Christmas spirit.

However, as a season finale, it might leave us wondering what the point of the show is. When we first started The Santa Clauses Season 1, it looked like we were going to end up with a new Santa to renew a classic.

As “Chapter Six: A Christmas To Remember” goes on, we discover we will end up with the same Santa, but with a different attitude and appreciation for his family and his elves.

We see now that Sandra and Cal have powers that can be used to better Christmas and increase the holiday spirit. Shouldn’t this have been used in previous episodes?

If this possibility had been explored earlier, the idea of a new Santa would have been scratched. Scott relying on this team (as he calls his family towards the end) would have happened sooner, and he would have realized the mistakes he had made in the past.

However, this gives the kids the opportunity to better know themselves and understand life in the real world and the North Pole. The combination of living these two realities is what allows them to help their father when he needs it most.

Even though Grace doesn’t have superpowers, she plays a similar role to her dad. She reminds him of what matters and what life really is about.

As Scott says, “even the best dads lose our way.” In the end, as rushed as these episodes of The Santa Clauses may have been, the men involved learned that being a good father should come above everything else.

For Simon, that means going back home with his daughter. For Scott, it means involving his children and wife in the process of Christmas.

There is another nod to the movies when the foot soldiers appear on The Santa Clauses, but the best thing their scene does is prove why Elizabeth Mitchell continues to be the best part of the series.

From the very beginning of The Santa Clauses Season 1, Mrs. Claus showed us she would be the character to keep an eye out for. She proved she was more than what the representations of this woman in pop culture give us.

Carol knows exactly what to say and when to say it, whether it’s towards her husband, her children, or the elves she has taken in as part of her family. She has the right word and she isn’t afraid to kick ass when necessary (exhibit A being the fallen foot soldiers).

Without her, Scott wouldn’t feel comfortable enough to become Santa once more. It is because he has her support, that he decides to put on the magic coat and save Christmas.

If The Santa Clauses does one thing throughout it’s Season 1, is prove the Christmas spirit comes from the people you love and the quality time you spend with them. Something Scott had forgotten in the past too, but finally seems to remember this time around.

With the end of “A Christmas to Remember,” there is hope that the future Santa will come from within the family — something they should have worked with in previous episodes. If Scott can continue to train Cal, there is a chance the next Santa will be just as good.

For now, we can thank The Santa Clauses for bringing some of our favorite characters back to life and introducing new ones.
