The Flash Sets Premiere Date for Ninth and Final Season at The CW

News, The Flash

Sadly, Barry Allen can’t outrun the end of The Flash, premiering its ninth and final season on The CW in early 2023.

Deadline shared that the network announced Team Flash’s last outing would debut on Wednesday, February 8, at 8/7c. It will lead into Kung Fu‘s midseason return at 9/8c.

The Flash‘s final season’s premiere has been a question that fans have been impatiently awaiting an answer to as The CW continues to unveil scheduling plans.

As previously reported, The CW renewed the superhero drama for Season 9 in March 2022, making it the longest-running Arrowverse show.

The next update came in May when The CW unveiled its 2022/2023 programming, revealing The Flash would be held for its 2023 midseason.

By the end of November 2022, The CW released midseason premiere and return dates for some of its slate, including Walker, All American, and The Winchesters.

Newcomer Gotham Knights and returning series Nancy Drew, Riverdale, Superman & Lois, and The Flash were noticeably absent from that line-up.

Per TV Line, The CW’s latest update, announcing the season’s premiere, also confirms that it will consist of 13 episodes.

Deadline’s report shares a statement from Brad Schwartz, President, Entertainment, The CW Network, about The Flash Season 9.

The Flash will be remembered as one of the greatest shows in the history of The CW, and everyone involved in its excellent nine-season run should be very proud,” Schwartz shared.

“The team has delivered an epic final season, filled with plenty of twists, guest stars, and surprises that will delight every fan. Now is the time to catch-up and enjoy this fantastic final ride alongside the fastest man alive,” Schwartz added.

The Flash‘s final season picks up only one week after Team Flash defeated Reverse Flash. The season finds Barry and Iris “reconnecting and growing closer than ever before.”

“But when a deadly group of Rogues descend on Central City led by a powerful new threat, The Flash and his team—Caitlin Snow, Meta-Empath Cecile Horton, the light-powered meta Allegra Garcia, brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk, and reformed cryogenics thief Mark Blaine—must once again defy impossible odds to save the day.”

“But as The Rogues are defeated, a deadly new adversary rises to challenge Barry Allen’s heroic legacy. And in their greatest battle yet, Barry and Team Flash will be pushed to their limits, in order to save Central City one last time,” the logline concludes.

Those details confirm that some of The Flash‘s returning cast includes Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Danielle Nicolet, Kayla Compton, Brandon McKnight, and Jon Cor.

The series about the fastest man alive premiered on The CW on October 7, 2014.

It expanded the Arroweverse almost two years after Arrow‘s series premiere on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. From there, a shared universe of superheroes grew on the small screen.

With Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and Batwoman, the Arrowverse maintained a significant presence in The CW’s fall line-ups. Stargirl, Superman & Lois, and Naomi existed in the multiverse, distancing themselves from the Arrowverse.

Nevertheless, The Flash has been a staple for The CW, and its farewell season marks the end of the Arrowverse’s stay on the network 13 years after it debuted. That’s quite an impressive run for the fastest man alive and his friends.

The Flash Season 9 premieres Wednesday at 8/7c on The CW.
