Nicole Maines to Reprise ‘Supergirl’ Role of Dreamer on ‘The Flash’ Season 9
Nia Nal will suit up as Supergirl‘s Dreamer on-screen again as she joins forces with Iris West-Allen on The Flash‘s ninth and final season.
TV Insider exclusively reported the news with quotes from The Flash‘s showrunner Eric Wallace.
Nicole Maines confirmed the news with a fun Instagram video showing her back in Dreamer’s suit with the caption, “Back in a Flash.”

“As Supergirl fans ourselves, all of us here on The Flash are SUPER-excited to have Nicole join Team Flash for a one-off adventure as we put together our final season,” Wallace said.
“Nicole is a fantastically talented actress and I’m so happy she’s agreed to be part of a very special Season 9 episode where I get to cross off one of my “Arrowverse Bucket List” team-ups: Having two fantastic reporters — Iris West-Allen and Nia Nal — investigate their own very bizarre and frightening mystery,” Wallace added.
Nicole Maines made her Arrowverse debut as Nia Nal on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 1, “American Alien,” in 2018. As TV Insider notes, Maines became TV’s first-ever trans superhero as Dreamer.
Nia initially joined the series as a young reporter working alongside Kara Danvers, and the show eventually reveals Nia has precognitive abilities.

By the two-episode series finale, Supergirl Season 6 Episode 19, “The Last Gauntlet,” and Episode 20, “Kara,” Nia is more secure in her expansive abilities as Dreamer than ever before.
Supergirl also insinuates that since Brainy — Nia’s long-term boyfriend — is staying in the present with her, they will eventually get married.
Only time will tell if The Flash Season 9 will follow up on those leads and more. As previously reported, The Flash‘s final season will premiere on Wednesday, February 8 at 8/9c on The CW.
Maines isn’t the only Arrowverse alum reprising their role for The Flash‘s swan-song season. Entertainment Weekly exclusively reported that Javicia Leslie would return, too.
While the news shares that “details about her role and how many episodes Leslie will appear in are being kept top secret for now,” Leslie posted a video to Instagram where she’s in her Batwoman suit, dancing with Candice Patton.

Leslie joined Batwoman in its second season as Ryan Wilder, who would become Batwoman and protect Gotham City. The series debuted in 2019 on The CW and was one of many shows canceled by the network this year. After Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow were canceled, The Flash became the final Arrowverse series.
The Flash‘s final season picks up one week after Team Flash defeated Reverse Flash, and Barry and Iris “are reconnecting and growing closer than ever before.” Team Flash must join together to face “a deadly group of Rogues” who “descend on Central City led by a powerful new threat.”
“But as The Rogues are defeated, a deadly new adversary rises to challenge Barry Allen’s heroic legacy. And in their greatest battle yet, Barry and Team Flash will be pushed to their limits, in order to save Central City one last time,” the season’s synopsis concludes.
Perhaps Nia Nal’s journalistic abilities and Dreamer’s superhero powers will prove an asset in this final fight.
