The Resident Season 6 Episode 9 Review: No Pressure No Diamonds
The biggest fear heading into The Resident Season 6 Episode 9, “No Pressure No Diamonds,” was that Leela’s admiration and respect for Bell would change. However, the episode does not disappoint, and Leela reassures him of her trust in him and his knowledge.
Nevertheless, the article released by the governor speaking about Bell’s past has an immense effect on everyone at Chastain. Everything seems to be taking a turn for the worse, from his health to his participation in a case.
How much longer can Doctor Bell stand the pressure of this political war on his persona?

The Resident continuously spoils viewers by presenting innovative cases to keep us on the edge of our seats. “No Pressure No Diamonds” isn’t any different, with a surgery that involves a 3-D titanium ribcage.
As excited as we are for this procedure, things seem to go south quickly. So we are worried the patient won’t make it (which would be terrible for Chastain, given the circumstances), and we are worried about Doctor Bell.
After the article goes live, mentioning everything he has ever done wrong, he needs to take a step back and let other doctors take the lead. The one thing The Resident always does right when it comes to Bell is putting Voss by his side.
They are the power couple of the show and continue to prove that no matter what they are going through, they can do it together.
This time around, stepping up for Bell means Kit Voss gets to prove once more why she is CEO and a world-renowned doctor. In addition, she manages to lead the surgery and keep the patient alive.

As professional as we see Kit Voss in the OR, there is a fear that the lines are getting too blurry for her. The patient’s daughter points this out when she says, “you are his wife.”
How far is Voss willing to go for her husband? And how will this affect her behavior as a surgeon and CEO?
This is something The Resident makes obvious when Devon brings up the idea of a documentary. Voss is extremely afraid of how the video will make Chastain look, but above all, how it will make Bell look.

The saying is “any publicity is good publicity,” but the episode proves this isn’t true with the newest article.
The only way the documentary will be good publicity is if they control the narrative — something not all directors will allow.
However, as Devon cancels the filming of the surgery, the real opportunity for good publicity arises. It is Conrad (as per usual) who pushes Bell to do his very best and perform a procedure in a hallway.
That is when the camera catches him, and “footage doesn’t lie,” so maybe Dr. Bell can finally prove his worth to the audience, shutting up any rumors the governor may continue to spread.

At the beginning of Season 6, The Resident focused heavily on Padma, The Raptor, and the twins. But as time passed, they took a step back, and we soon forgot about them.
“No Pressure No Diamonds” changes that drastically. The twins return to the scene, showing how many months have passed since we last saw them.
As subtle as their reintroduction into the storyline is, the consequences will be drastic. Towards the end of the episode, we discover with The Raptor that Padma is gone. So what is supposed to be a self-care day turns into a disappearance.
It is sad to watch Padma struggle with post-partum depression without seeking help or receiving the support she needs. However, this plot twist will allow us to see The Raptor as a father figure. Is he up to the challenge as he thought he was?
Hopefully, his journey through fatherhood will let Padma get the help she needs and find her way back to her twins.

One single article made a bomb explode at Chastain, and I am sure we will continue to see the repercussions as Season 6 goes on.
Bell will have to deal with the new symptoms of his MS. Voss will have to hold her ground against the governor. Finally, the Raptor will have to figure out parenthood on his own.
How much more drama can these doctors take? That is precisely what we look for on every passing episode, and The Resident continues to deliver.
Stray Observations
- It is nice to see Billie discussing her son, her feelings regarding motherhood, and the possibility of ever having more children.
- Voss and Devon’s professional relationship and friendship are among the best on the show. The two characters have grown a lot together, and it seems like they are always there for each other in times of need.
- Bell mentions he needs to go back for his treatment. How long will he be gone? It seems like his character has been off-camera more often than not this season.
- The subtle mention of Tiger King and Conrad’s comments is the perfect way to introduce pop culture into the show.
