Alfea College is closing its doors because Netflix announced that Fate: The Winx Saga has been canceled after two seasons.

Per Variety, showrunner Brian Young initially shared the news via an Instagram post.

Young’s Instagram post reads, “Hi all! So this is not fun news to share, but Netflix have decided not to move forward with Season Three of Fate: The Winx Saga. This is especially tough because I know how many of you loved this season. It’s a heartbreaking silver lining, but a silver lining all the same.”

“I’m so proud of everyone who worked on the show, and so happy we got to tell the stories we did. Our cast and crew put in a ton of hard work creating this world and these characters. I’m grateful for each and every one of them, and for all of you for watching,” he added.

“It’s been an amazing four years. Hopefully we’ll see each other again in the future! So much love,” Young concluded.

Fate: The Winx Saga‘s seven-episode second season debuted on Netflix in September. Its first season premiered in 2021. It’s a live-action reimagining of the Italian animated series Winx Club that debuted in 2004 and was created by Iginio Straffi.

According to Deadline, Winx Club “became one of the most successful animated series in Europe and one of the first Italian series to be sold in the U.S.”

Variety reports that Fate: The Winx Saga “appeared to be a success story for Netflix” before this cancelation. “During the Sept. 5-11 viewing window, Season 2 debuted on the Netflix Top 10 as the second-most viewed English-language TV title and the third-most watched title overall, with only Cobra Kai and Narco-Saints outranking it.”

“The season remained on the Netflix Top 10 for five weeks, a considerable run, and Season 1 broke onto the chart for two weeks as well during this time, as often occurs with Netflix’s most popular series,” Variety shared.

Unfortunately, those numbers didn’t secure a third season for the coming-of-age fantasy series.

Fate: The Winx Saga‘s cancelation means that Season 2’s twists — like Bloom encountering the woman who gave birth to her 1,000 years ago — won’t receive follow-up stories at Netflix.

The Netflix series is a coming-of-age journey about six fairies attending Alfea, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld, where they learn to master their powers while navigating love, rivalries, and the monsters that threaten their very existence.

Season 2, which is now Fate: The Winx Saga‘s final season, follows the cast of characters as they face new magic, new romances, and new faces as fairies go missing in the night. Bloom and her friends work together to stop whatever lurks in the shadows before it wreaks havoc on the entire Otherworld.

Fate: The Winx Saga‘s cast included Abigail Cowen, Hannah van der Westhuysen, Precious Mustapha, Eliot Salt, Elisha Applebaum, Danny Griffin, Sadie Soverall, Freddie Thorp, Theo Graham, and Robert James-Collier, among many others.
