The Crown Season 5 Trailer Released by Netflix
The Crown follows the Royal Family into the ’90s in the first trailer for Season 5, coming to Netflix early next month.
The trailer introduces a new cast filling the aforementioned roles, as the award-winning series has done every two seasons since its debut.

The fifth season, which debuts Wednesday, November 9 on Netflix, stars Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip, with Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki as Charles and Diana.
The new cast includes Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Jonny Lee Miller as UK Prime Minister John Major.
The Crown‘s trailer showcases that as the public questions the monarchy’s relevance in 1990s Britain, the Royal Family also struggles with widening cracks in their personal lives. The season’s key art, seen at Netflix’s TUDUM, plays on that concept.

For instance, the trailer shows that Charles rekindles his relationship with Camilla in the trailer. Per the season’s description, Charles’ pressure on his mother to allow a divorce from Diana presents “a constitutional crisis of the monarchy.”
Diana expresses more concern about royal life’s pressures and the press’ intensity. Her attempts to reclaim her narrative manifest in “breaking with family protocol to publish a book that undermines public support for Charles and exposes the cracks in the House of Windsor.”
The Crown‘s dramatic trailer is cut together in a way to build the tension within the palace walls and beyond them, and TV Line details, “The mournful cover of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” is a nice touch, too.”

The monarchy faces many pressures, including the collapse of the Soviet Union, in Season 5 as Queen Elizabeth II approaches the 40th anniversary of her accession.
As Netflix’s TUDUM notes, at the end of the two-minute trailer, Queen Elizabeth asks “How did it come to this?” It’s a question that “neatly sums up the two-minute clip, which heralds a challenging decade for the British monarchy.”
