William H. Macy to Guest Star on ‘The Conners’ Season 5
The Shameless to The Conners pipeline is very strong, as William H. Macy is set to appear on the ABC show.
According to Variety, Macy will be taking a turn in Lanford as an old high school friend of Dan’s called Smitty. Judging by the name,e he’s bound to cause chaos and havoc on an already chaotic family.
Macy becomes the fourth star from the long-running Showtime series to make a guest appearance in Lanford.

Fans will remember Ethan Cutkosky (who portrayed Shameless‘s Carl Gallagher) played a guest role on The Conners Season 5 Episode 4, “Parent Traps and Heart Attacks.”
Cutkosky and Macy aren’t the only ones, either. During Season 2, Dan’s half-brother Ed Jr., played by Noel Fisher, appeared on three episodes. Fisher played Mickey Milkovich on Shameless.
TV Line confirms that William H. Macy will be the fourth Shameless actor to join the show’s ranks in a recurring role. Aside from the aforementioned guest stars, The Conners also has Katey Sagal, who also recurred on Shameless.
It’ll be interesting to see another guest actor join the show and interact with Emma Kenney, who plays Harris Conner-Healy on The Conners. Kenney played Debbie Gallagher throughout Shameless‘ tenure.

This small-screen reunion will surely appease some fans of Showtime’s family dramedy. Plus, It isn’t very often that stories revolve around people Dan knows. So, naturally, this addition will make for a shift in the overall show.
Ever since its premiere, the focus of The Conners has been on Darlene, Jackie, and Becky — not Dan. However, Season 5 has already shown that Dan is becoming more of a focus, and Macy’s guest appearance supports that.
There still hasn’t been any news on which episode William H. Macy will star in, but either way, fans are in for a treat when he does.
