Denim Richards Says ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 is a ‘Season of Change’ [Interview]

Yellowstone Season 5 will be a “season of change” according to Denim Richards, who plays Colby on the hit series.

Returning to Paramount Network for its new season this Sunday, Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States — Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.

I recently had the chance to chat with actor Denim Richards about the upcoming season, what it’s like behind the scenes, and his most memorable moments from the series so far. (You can watch the full interview below.)

Before discussing what the audience could expect this season, Denim talked about the success of the series and what it has meant to him to be a part of it.

“This has been a real blessing. I don’t think anybody — if you had asked them five years ago, would’ve said that this was gonna be the reaction, that the audience has been giving us,” Richards said. “We’re happy, especially this season, that we’re doing 16 episode seasons. So we’re doing 8 in this block and then 8 in the next block of Season 5.”

There are many reasons to watch Yellowstone, but really, one of those is to see the actors in such a beautiful location. Richards shared a bit about what it’s like filming in Montana.

Watch the full interview with Denim Richards:

“I think that it’s probably the most enriching type of location because we don’t really have to do a lot of acting, right? Because we’re really in the elements. We’re really on horses, there really are cows, we really are outside. We’re not on a soundstage in the middle of New York City. So to really be in the middle of Montana, or what they call ‘Big Sky Country’ it’s just such a vast world and it’s so big,” he said. “It’s the best office to go to work at every single day.”

“And just to let everybody know, all the elements are also real,” Richards added. “So every time you see it raining or snowing, that is us out there doing it. I think that’s what kind of adds to the charm of the show as well.”

As for what we can expect from Yellowstone Season 5, Richards hinted at big changes, including between Colby and Teeter.

“I think there’s great themes for this season,” Richards said. “A theme that I think Colby has is a season of change, and I think that’s kind of a running theme throughout this season actually.”

“I think one of the great things about Colby is everybody loves the Colby and Teeter of it all, played by Jan Landon. She’s a phenomenal, phenomenal artist. I think that you’re also gonna see that the dynamics between them change a little bit, maybe for the good.”

“As everybody also knows, John is now Governor of Montana which requires him to be away from the ranch a little bit more,” Richards continued. “Now that he’s away from the ranch, there’s a lot more opportunity for the opposition to come in and take advantage of that.”

Yellowstone Season 5 premieres Sunday, November 13th with back-to-back episodes beginning at 8/7c on Paramount Network.
