Big Sky: Deadly Trails Season 3 Episode 7 Review: Come Get Me

Big Sky, Reviews

The “Bleeding Heart Murder” cold case heats up on Big Sky: Deadly Trails Season 3 Episode 7, “Come Get Me.”

Big Sky operates really well at this kind of pacing. Up until now, the leads on the case have come in fits and starts, but with a little help from the victim’s father who is still grieving 20 years later, important connections are being made.

The most important being Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) seeing the similarities in the composite sketches done two decades apart. It pretty much confirms what I’ve been expecting—that Walter (Seth Gabel) is the killer, past and present.

The side plot of Paige (Madalyn Horcher) and Luke (Anirudh Pisharody)and the 15 million dollars is picking up its pace, too, and finally interweaving into the main storyline.

It will be interesting to see what the police uncover once they come search the Sunny Day Excursions camp now that Mary’s body has been discovered.

Buck: Call the sheriff! Somebody killed Mary.

Poor Emily (Cree Cicchino) has now had two scary nights of running terrified through the woods. While out looking for Luke in the dark woods (despite the super convenient Supermoon), she finds Mary (Sofia Embid).

This would be so great for her podcast.

With the momentum the story has gathered, eccentricities are coming out of some of the characters’ woodwork. For example, what is the deal with Buck (Rex Linn)? The way he smells the human blood on his hand after stabbing Mary is a rather provocative gesture, one I’m hoping will be explored down the line.

Speaking of Big Sky‘s eccentric characters, Donno (Ryan O’Nan) is one of the best. His relationship with Tonya (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) is the most delightful development, and this episode provides in that area.

Donno is making up for the quirky dialogue that has been missing since Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty) was killed on Big Sky Season 2 Episode 12, “A Good Boy.” In every episode with Donno, there’s always at least one gem. On this episode, there are many, as well as a welcome display of emotional depth from the hitman.

Donno: We don’t care about your hobbies. Except the pickles.

He does, however, care deeply about Tonya, and it’s extra clear on this episode. I am, indeed, shipping it.

We can’t talk about characters on this episode without mentioning guest stars, Lyle Lovett and Darius Rucker. The music legends play Tex and Possum, fascinating contract killers working with Tony (West Liang). The whole scene in the deserted Boot Heel and this meeting among mobsters is a real treat.
