Nancy Drew to End with Fourth and Final Season at The CW
The Drew Crew will solve their final mystery when Nancy Drew embarks on its fourth and final season at The CW.
TV Line reported The CW’s announcement about the show’s ending, confirming that a premiere date for Nancy Drew Season 4 will be revealed at a later date.
In its earlier announcement of 2022/2023 programming, The CW announced that Nancy Drew‘s new season will be held for midseason 2023.
Nancy Drew‘s showrunners Noga Landau and Melinda Hsu Taylor released a joint statement about the show’s ending.
“We are so honored and proud to have brought Nancy Drew’s iconic determination, individuality, and resilience to life in a years-long collaboration with incredible creative talents in front of the camera, behind the scenes, and among our studio and network partners,” they stated.
“Our hearts are full of gratitude, knowing that we are able to bring this chapter to a close with intentionality, inclusivity, and kindness — and of course with plenty of sleuthing twists, supernatural scares, and star-crossed romance along the way.”
“We are especially indebted to our wonderful fan community, whose connection with our themes and stories has meant the world to us. Season 4 will be a worthy and resonant payoff for their continued love and support.”
The news about the fourth and final season comes after Nancy Drew‘s early renewal in March of this year.
Since then, The CW has seen quite a change in its slate of programming. A little less than two months later, the network announced 6 cancelations, including Roswell, New Mexico and Naomi.
Those cancelations came on the heels of earlier terminations of Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
A month after the mass cancelations, The CW announced that Nancy Drew‘s spin-off Tom Swift would end with its first season.
As Noga Landau and Melinda Hsu Taylor’s statement reflects, Nancy Drew is in a more unique situation than some of the other shows on the network — it gets to know its ending ahead of time.
Deadline even reports that “According to sources, discussions about the drama concluding its run after its upcoming fourth season started months ago.”
In a tweet, Kennedy McMann, who portrays the titular sleuth, shared that she recently learned about the news. TV Line shared her formal statement.
“It has been the greatest pleasure to begin my career as one small part of Nancy Drew’s endless legacy. What a privilege to walk in her shoes for as long as I have, to be inspired by her, and to grow with her,” McMann stated.
“I wish our incredible fans could feel the heart and passion of our crew that has been ever-present on and off screen, day in and day out since the very beginning. You are every bit a part of this incredible show as we are. Thank you, thank you, thank you for every ounce of passion and kindness you have shared with me and with each other.”
Leah Lewis, who portrays one of The Claw’s owners George Fan, also shared kind sentiments about being a part of Nancy Drew on Twitter.
Nancy Drew joins two other The CW shows ending with their upcoming seasons, Riverdale‘s sixth season and The Flash‘s ninth season.
