Little Demon Season 1 Episode 10 Review: Village of the Found
Little Demon Season 1 Episode 10, “Village of the Found,” introduces a cast of colorful new characters while emboldening Chrissy to embrace her identity and tasking Bennigan with a surprising job.
“Village of the Found” also uncovers intriguing truths by way of Laura and Satan’s complex relationship. They say there’s a fine line between love and hate, and we saw that line slowly erode in this outing. Laura shares more similarities with Satan than she’s willing to admit. Is it wrong to want them to rekindle their romance? The chemistry is there!
As usual, the voice cast delivers the goods, with Aubrey Plaza, Danny DeVito, Michael Shannon, and Lennon Parham as the standouts. DeVito’s 17-year-turn as Frank Reynolds undoubtedly prepared him to play the king of hell. He seamlessly slips into this role with the ease of a pro. Plaza’s vocal timbre and cadence lend themselves to Laura’s sardonic nature. She’s perfect for this part.

Michael Shannon’s return as Unshaven Man is just as funny as his first appearance. Admittedly, it takes a minute to recognize his voice, which is the mark of a gifted actor. Lennon Parham is an underrated propulsive force on Little Demon, doling out many of the show’s hilarious moments.
Lucy DeVito makes Chrissy her own, legitimately sounding like a 13-year-old girl. Knowing that Danny DeVito is her father makes their bond in the series that much sweeter and more layered. There’s already easy onscreen chemistry between them.
“Village of the Found” ushers forth Chrissy’s countless siblings while simultaneously fracturing her relationship with Satan. A major crux of this season is self-identity, as Chrissy wends her way through the pitfalls and triumphs of adolescence. Being the Antichrist, everyone from Laura and Satan to Bennigan is telling her who she should be. It’s already a self-conscious and delicate time for a teen. Thankfully, Chrissy takes her identity into her own hands by the end of the episode.

Of course, owning who you are might mean clinging tightly to your intrinsic nature, a.k.a. being the Antichrist. So far, Chrissy has shown empathy, remorse, and genuine kindness to those around her. Will she sacrifice that in favor of embracing her incredible powers?
Bennigan’s newest crusade will undoubtedly throw a wrench in his relationship with Chrissy. We didn’t witness Maximus Dawnus this season, but the writers are certainly building toward it. Michael enlisting Bennigan’s aid as a warrior, and Chrissy fully accepting who she is, indicates a nod in that direction.
“Village of the Found” is another fun episode in the Little Demon canon, serving up a handful of surprises and delights to carry us into another season. The mythology behind this series is so creative, and it’s entertaining to watch the writers expand on said mythos. We’re in an exciting place for Season 2, so here’s hoping the Powers That Be renew it!

Stray Observations:
- Richard Kind being a spawn of Satan is such a genius move, especially considering how morally bankrupt the devil is and how ostensibly sweet Kind is.
- The legendary Mel Brooks voiced the Millipede. This is your daily reminder that Mel Brooks is a badass.
- Lamorne Morris is always a great asset to any cast. Michael bestows a daunting task on Bennigan — that of being a warrior for the big boss. Does this mean we’ll see God if there’s a Season 2 of Little Demon? Will Bennigan have to square off against Chrissy, someone for whom he carries a torch?
- More scenes featuring Darlene in Season 2, please, and thank you. We need to know how her steamy affair with Erwin is going!
- Is it just me, or did one of Chrissy’s siblings resemble Legolas from The Lord of the Rings?
