Based on Anne Rice’s bestselling novel of the same name, AMC’s new adaptation of Interview with the Vampirehas some big shoes to fill.
After all, the last time we saw these characters onscreen (in the 1994 feature film) they were played by none other than Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Kirsten Dunst.

But in the (gulp!) nearly thirty years since that movie was released, the world has changed, and Louis du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt must change with it. Hopefully for the better.
The story follows the titular vampire Louis, who tracks down a jaded journalist fifty years after their first (failed) interview attempt so he can finish telling him — and ostensibly the world — his remarkable life story.
What’s perhaps most intriguing about this latest interaction of Rice’s popular tale is the way that AMC has deliberately updated the source material to include both characters of color and explicit queerness, significantly diversifying its world.
What that final blend will look like we’ll have to wait and see, but if the photos and video below are any indications, it certainly appears more than promising.

Series description: A sensuous, contemporary reinvention of Anne Rice’s revolutionary gothic novel, Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and Claudia’s (Bailey Bass) epic story of love, blood, and the perils of immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). Chafing at the limitations of life as a black man in 1900s New Orleans, Louis finds it impossible to resist the rakish Lestat De Lioncourt’s offer of the ultimate escape: joining him as his vampire companion. But Louis’s intoxicating new powers come with a violent price, and the introduction of Lestat’s newest fledgling, the child vampire Claudia, soon sets them on a decades-long path of revenge and atonement.
