Preview — House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 2: The Rogue Prince
Princess Rhaenyra gets her first taste of heir-status on House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 2, “The Rogue Prince.”
With no official synopsis released for episode two, it’s hard to gauge what the hour will consist of. One thing we know for sure, though, is that Prince Daemon will make his return to King’s Landing, despite the orders from King Viserys not to return.
House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 1, “The Heirs of the Dragon,” does an impeccable job of introducing the lives of the Targaryen bloodline, their reign, and the dramatic familial elements at play.
Now that we’ve seen those base elements in the series established, it’s time to kick it up a notch.
Aemma’s death and Rhaenyra’s succession to the throne are bound to shake things up in King’s Landing. A woman sitting upon the Iron Throne has been an unfathomable thought until now, and it will not sit well with everyone. The decision will undoubtedly bring additional enemies and harm Rhaenyra’s way.
The death of the king’s wife also begs the question: what will he do now? Rhaenyra has taken Daemon’s place as heir to the throne, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Viserys will stop trying for another son.
Otto Hightower wasted no time trying to pass Alicent off on Viserys after Aemma’s death, so it feels like there’ll be more to the situation than Daemon simply trying to reclaim his status. It’s plausible that we’ll see Viserys marry again during the season, causing tension between him and Rhaenyra.
The released promo video that previews the next few episodes indicates that Alicent and Rhaenyra’s friendship is no longer prevalent in the future. Could this be because of a potential relationship between Alicent and Viserys? I sure hope not, but it seems like a real possibility.
