Loot Loot Season 1 Episode 10 Review: The Silver Moon Summit Maya Rudolph as Molly

Loot Season 1 Episode 10 Review: The Silver Moon Summit

Loot, Reviews

Loot has presented a sometimes mixed but overall strong freshman showing. Rarely is a new show perfect, and Loot is no exception.

On Loot Season 1 Episode 10, “The Silver Moon Summit” (the show’s first season finale) the gang is flown out to an extravagant conference for rich people. Molly is making a presentation about Jean-Pierre’s clean water product and flies her team out.

It’s clear that the point of “The Silver Moon Summit” is to establish the premise of the show going forward. By the end of Season 1, Molly decides to eradicate her fortune by continuing her charity work. Therefore – the premise of the series going forward is building toward Molly’s eventual integration into “normal” life.

Michaela Jae Rodriguez as Sofia

Luckily, there’s already a Season 2 renewal for Lootso the premise has time to truly take hold.

“The Silver Moon Summit” gets pretty deep into the socio-political aspects of Loot, and those elements are not particularly well-executed. Regardless whether or not you believe that “billionaires shouldn’t exist,” the execution surrounding Molly’s realization and forward-thinking commitment are clumsy.

It seems as though Loot hadn’t totally figured itself out while the first season was being produced, but now it has. The show is best when it’s about the ensemble and their charity work combined with their personal lives. Molly being an out-of-touch billionaire is just a catalyst for that charity work.

Loot
Maya Rudolph as Molly

As a sitcom with this cast of characters, Loot works. Sofia and Molly make for a fun odd couple dynamic, and the group of men from the foundation are all hysterical.

Sofia: I went to a police brutality protest there. And a garlic festival.

Plus, they all have interesting lives. Nicholas wants to act, Howard, Arthur, and Sofia all have *very* interesting relationships. Rhonda may be the most interesting character of all!

Loot
Ron Funches as Howard, Joel Kim Booster as Nicholas

“The Silver Moon Summit” is a great showcase for the ensemble cast, and the fact that they don’t all have to be in conflict to be funny and compelling. Nicholas, Arthur, and Howard’s story is a wonderful “bros supporting bros” tale that has humor and heart.

Loot is already good. It’s funny, and the talented actors demand your attention and emotional investment. With some consistency in its approach, it can be great!

Loot
Nat Faxon as Arthur
A few stray thoughts:
  • Molly waking up next to John after that jump cut is extremely predictable. I like Adam Scott a lot, but…yawn.
  • I’ve never been so invested in a character relationship as I have with Arthur and Molly. I ship them so hard!
  • Honestly, I would even watch a spin-off about Nicholas and Howard, with occasional guest appearances from Arthur and Rhonda. Million dollar idea.
  • That scene with the water purifier is equal parts disgusting and annoying. Maya Rudolph’s commitment to the bit is the only thing that makes it watchable.
  • “Stop talking in Billie Eilish lyrics and tell us what’s wrong.” A lesson in being direct!
