‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Adds Alexis Floyd as Series Regular for Season 19
Grey Sloan’s surgical residency program will seemingly continue when Inventing Anna‘s Alexis Floyd joins Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular for Season 19.
Deadline exclusively reported the news that Floyd would join the medical drama as Simone Griffin, “a new first-year surgical resident at Grey Sloan.”

Grey’s Anatomy fans will note that on the Season 18 two-part finale, the previously renowned teaching program shut down — 400 episodes into the series’ run.
That surprising change is one of many Grey’s Anatomy is tasked with tackling in Season 19. The staff is in flux, giving Meredith Grey more responsibility than ever before.
The details about Floyd’s character suggest that Meredith’s professional responsibility may include spearheading the revamped teaching program.

Deadline describes Simone Griffin as “a funny, whip smart, high achiever with a complicated family dynamic.” Though Simone grew up in Seattle, she “never wanted to work at Grey Sloan because of a painful personal history with the hospital.”
A complicated connection to Grey Sloan Memorial isn’t shocking on Grey’s Anatomy. The ABC drama could tie Simone’s past to a notable medical case from the show, or Simone’s presence could uncover a new, previously unknown side of the hospital.
In a statement to Deadline, Alexis Floyd shared, “Grey’s Anatomy, like all of Shonda’s canon, is a genre re-defining show that remains masterfully committed to diversity, relevancy, and vulnerability.”
“Joining the cast in its 19th season is an immeasurable honor, and quite simply, it’s gonna be wicked fun,” Floyd added.

In a report about her addition to Grey’s Anatomy, TVLine notes that Alexis Floyd’s resume also includes Freeform’s The Bold Type. Floyd portrayed Tia Clayton in the show’s third season.
Prior to Grey’s Anatomy, Floyd joined the Shondaland world through the role of Neff on Netflix’s Inventing Anna.
The drama series recently received three nominations for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, as previously reported. One nomination is for Oustanding Limited or Anthology Series.
As for Grey’s Anatomy, Season 19 debuts this fall on ABC, following the Season 6 premiere of its spinoff series Station 19.
