Tom Swift Season 1 Episode 8 Review: …And His Two Men and a Baby
When a show decides to go the character driven route on an episode it usually turns out to be one of the stronger elements. This holds especially true for Tom Swift Season 1 Episode 8, “…And His Two Men and a Baby.”
While the episode does center on keeping one of The Road Back’s victims safe from harm, there is a deeper element that centers on the central dynamic. Things have been awkward between all of them since Isaac and Tom had a near kiss and this episode proves why that can effect the team.
Emotions are never Tom’s strong suit, but when it comes to Isaac it appears as though Tom is even more inept. Watching him go on the journey toward finally facing what happened is almost as exciting as the rescue attempt.
Tom and Isaac — Love?

This whole season Tom and Isaac have been exchanging glances and the energy between them has become increasingly electric. So, it’s quite the surprise when Isaac admits to Tom that he isn’t interested in Tom in that way.
Isaac does end up on Zenzi doorstep to reveal he has feelings for her, but a part of me doesn’t buy it. There is just too much chemistry going on between him and Tom to discredit or sweep under the rug.
Part of me thinks that Isaac is in love with Tom but since Tom brushed the kiss off as being nothing he had to backtrack and recover. The having feelings for Zenzi seems to come out of nowhere in that respect — which makes it seem more of a coverup than anything.
Tom Swift has definitely been playing up the vibes between Isaac and Tom more than Isaac and Zenzi. The question remains whether the focus on Isaac/Tom is simply a red herring for Isaac’s true intentions or if Isaac/Zenzi is.
Honestly, either option for Isaac romantically could be fun and exciting to explore.
Can Rowan Be Trusted?

The biggest question this whole season has been whether or not Rowan should be trusted. The saddest thing is that answer is constantly in flip flop mode.
It’d be nice if at this point in the game we could trust him as a double agent who’s true side is with Team Swift. However, with the two steps forward we make during “…And His Two Men and a Baby” there is one glaring step back revealed at the end.
I want to trust Rowan because he is a beautifully complex character that only adds to the drama of the whole series. Also, he makes Tom a more vulnerable person and we all love to see that.

It’s just extremely hard to put your full trust into this character because he does a handful of great things and then something shady. For example on Tom Swift Season 1 Episode 7, “…And The Book of Isaac” he uses his blood as an antidote for Isaac, but then turns around and shuts down Barclay completely.
This episode he saves the life of Andrita and her baby, but then it’s clear that he plants some kind of device within Tom’s workspace. There is just no one-way with Rowan and it’s equal parts frustrating and exciting.
To put it mildly, Rowan is the double agent we didn’t realize we needed, but the show gave it to us anyways.
Stray Thoughts
- Zenzi shouldn’t be trusting Eskol this much, should she? Just like with Rowan I am unsure how I feel about trusting the congressman.
- Tom’s levitating baby blanket technology is AMAZING!
- While I am first and foremost Team Isaac/Tom I wouldn’t be mad if it turns out to be Team Isaac/Rowan.
- I’m still curious about why Rowan wanted Tom to save Andrita.
