‘Starstruck’ Renewed for Season 3 by HBO Max

News

Jessie and Tom’s love story isn’t over yet! Alongside co-producer BBC Three, HBO Max has renewed Starstruck for a third season.

This news comes after its second season wrapped up in March. This renewal is much later than its last since Starstruck‘s Season 2 renewal happened the same day as its series premiere on HBO Max.

Per the logline, Starstruck “follows Jessie, a millennial living in East London juggling two dead-end jobs and navigating the complications of becoming romantically involved with famous film star Tom, and follows the couple as they realize they can’t keep away from each other.”

The series is chock full of quintessential rom-com moments, including one at the end of Season 2 that brings Jessie and Tom back together after they decided to break up.

The couple faced some obstacles as Jessie’s ex-boyfriend returned to the picture, and Tom traveled to the United States for a film production. However, a third season gives Jessie and Tom another chance to grow together as a couple.

Comedian and writer Rose Matafeo created the Max Original comedy. Alice Snedden and Nic Sampson are co-writers on the show, with Matafeo and Snedden also directing. Starstruck‘s ensemble cast previously included Minnie Driver and Russell Tovey.

During its run thus far, Starstruck has received critical acclaim, nominated for a string of prestigious awards. Recently, Rose Matafeo received a nomination from BAFTA 2022 for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme.

Matafeo released a statement about Starstruck‘s renewal, declaring her excitement to further her creative vision in front of and behind the camera.

“A third? Sure. Fine. I’m truly thrilled to bring this incredibly talented cast back for a third installment and equally excited to clamber into the director’s seat alongside my nice friend Alice Snedden who I cannot seem to get rid of,” Matafeo said.

Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max, stated, “Rose has created a show that strikes just the right balance of heart and humor. Starstruck is exactly the kind of rom-com that we love at HBO Max, and we are so happy to see Jessie and Tom’s story continue.”

Gregor Sharp, BBC Comedy Commissioning, added, “Starstruck is a blast of fresh comedy air, perfectly capturing the emotional mayhem of a new relationship with sharp wit, dry humor, and a truthful eye – we can’t wait to see what Rose and the team have in store for Jessie and Tom in the new series.”

The kind words for Starstruck and the acknowledgment of its success worldwide don’t stop with Aubrey and Sharp. Jon Thoday, Executive Producer for Avalon, stated: “It is fantastic to work again with two brilliant partners, in the BBC and HBO Max, to make a third season of this excellent show from Rose Matafeo.”

Starstruck is produced by Avalon and executive produced by Rob Aslett, Jon Thoday, Cath Gagon, Richard Allen-Turner, Rose Matafeo, and Gregor Sharp for the BBC. Toby Welch is a series producer.

Like Starstruck‘s cast and crew, we cannot wait to see what comes next for Jessie and Tom’s complicated, rom-com love story!
