
What to Watch on TV: Hacks, Candy, The Kids in the Hall
Welcome to a new week and another round of What to Watch on TV for the week of May 8th! We’ll be sharing our picks for what to watch this week, from marathons to big guest spots, and significant episodes of TV to look forward to.
This week’s picks include the Call the Midwife and Winning Time finales, new nightmares revealed with Candy and Our Father, and more.

As the inaugural season of the HBO series winds down, so does the tale of the fledgling basketball team’s season. Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty’s finale airs Sunday, May 8 at 9/8c on HBO.
Episode Description: Down two men and with the 1980 NBA Championship on the line, the outnumbered Lakers look to an unlikely source for inspiration. In Philly, Earvin faces off against his role-model-turned-rival Dr. J, while in LA, Haywood grapples with his own worst enemy: himself.
Candy – Monday, May 9

Viewers will be taking a trip to the 1980s for Hulu’s latest true crime deep dive series, as this one follows a housewife turned murderer. Starring Jessica Biel and Melanie Lynskey, Candy makes its debut Monday, May 9 on Hulu, with the rest of the limited series playing over the following four nights.
Series Description: Candy Montgomery is a 1980s housewife and mother who did everything right – but when the pressure of conformity builds within her, her actions scream for just a bit of freedom. Until someone tells her to shush. With deadly results.
Breeders – Monday, May 9
Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard are back as Paul and Ally face off against growing children, their mood swings, and all of the wild things that come along with parenting tween children. Breeders returns from its seemingly lengthy hiatus Monday, May 9 at 10/9c on FX.
Episode Description: With Luke refusing to live with his dad, Paul is staying at honeymooning Leah’s house; single-parent Ally begins to feel the strain, while a distressing event from the family’s past has a surprising present-day echo.
Operation Mincemeat – Wednesday, May 11

It’s a congregation of the Mr. Darcy’s, Colin Firth and Matthew McFadyen, as the actors portray a pair of World War II intelligence agents tasked with putting together perhaps the most crucial disinformation campaign to beat Hitler and the Axis powers. Based on a true story, Operation Mincemeat premieres Wednesday, May 11 on Netflix.
Movie Description: It’s 1943. The Allies are determined to break Hitler’s grip on occupied Europe, and plan an all-out assault on Sicily; but they face an impossible challenge – how to protect a massive invasion force from potential massacre. Our Father – Wednesday, May 11

Another disturbing true tale of a man wielding power, and ruining countless lives in the process, is set to take the streaming stage as it follows a fertility doctor that does the unthinkable, and now the children of his patients find themselves dealing with the man’s choices. Our Father debuts Wednesday. May 11 on Netflix.
Documentary Description: Jacoba Ballard was an only child, conceived via donor sperm, who always dreamed of having a brother or sister. An at-home DNA test led her to the discovery of not one but seven half-siblings – a number that defied best practices in fertility medicine. Hacks – Thursday, April 12
The ladies are taking their hilarious, if slightly dysfunctional, dynamic on the road as Ava and Deborah travel across the country working on her act. Will they manage this road trip without killing each other or comedically obliterating each other? Time will tell. Hacks season 2 premieres Thursday, May 12 on HBO Max.
Season Description: The dark mentorship between legendary Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and her young, entitled writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder) continues to evolve as the two travel across the country workshopping Deborah’s new stand-up act.
The Kids in the Hall – Friday, May 13
After a little over a thirty-year absence, the Canadian comedian troupe is back with eight episodes worth of new sketches, characters, guest stars, and more. The Kids in the Hall makes its streaming debut Friday, May 13 on Prime Video.
