Dynasty Review: Do You Always Talk to Turtles (Season 5 Episode 13)

Dynasty, Reviews

With Morell’s best interest at heart, Fallon makes a risky move on Dynasty Season 5 Episode 13, “Do You Always Talk to Turtles.”

Fallon is on the hunt to overtake the business world and force it to become more ecofriendly. However, in her pursuit of taking on a high-profile makeup brand’s signature line, she’s turned away because of her family association with PPA.

The only logical step Fallon can come up with is to force PPA to go eco-friendly, which Blake is hesitant to do. However, Cristal sees the worth of the opportunity and agrees, but only if modifications can be done within forty-eight hours. With PPA’s grand opening around the corner, they can’t risk anything that might postpone the event.

In typical Fallon fashion, she does whatever she can to save Morell, including planting endangered species on Blake’s land to postpone his grand opening when she can’t turn PPA eco-friendly in forty-eight hours. It’s a nasty move on Fallon’s part, but one that ends up being beneficial for everyone in the end.

After putting on a fake face and pretending to be there for Cristal and Blake during PPA’s time of need, it doesn’t take Cristal long to figure out the truth. If there’s one thing Fallon is desperate not to jeopardize again, it’s Blake’s trust. So, she does what she does best and cleans up the mess she makes.

“Do You Always Talk to Turtles” is a pleasing episode that allows Fallon to focus on her business while also addressing her feelings at the same time. Fallon and Cristal’s conversation at the end of the episode is one particularly special moment to come from this opportunity.

Fallon is so used to throwing herself into work and trying to forget her problems. From a young age, the idea of asking for help or showing emotion has been engrained in her as a sign of weakness. But, that’s no longer a tradition she wants to continue, leading to her opening up to Cristal about how she’s dealing emotionally.

Having lost a child herself, Cristal is the perfect person for Fallon to go to. Any feeling or emotion that Fallon might be feeling is something that Cristal has more than likely gone through and can help guide Fallon on how to deal with it more constructively. From their conversation comes the consensus of surrogacy, an option Fallon wasn’t open to initially, but one she’s all aboard for now.

What brings me the most joy from this situation is Liam’s support for Fallon. Not only do we actively keep getting to see Fallon working on her personal growth and maturing into motherhood, but we also get to see Liam do the same.

It’s refreshing for Liam to be so adamant about wanting to start a family with Fallon, no matter the cost, after his past stance on the idea. Plus, him stopping his mother from slapping Fallon? King!

Fallon and Liam have had more than their fair share of bumpy rides and close calls throughout their time as a couple, but it was worth it all to get to this moment. The two are soulmates, and it brings me so much joy to know that we’ll get to see them end the series with children, potentially.

Another front that “Do You Always Talk to Turtles” tackles and succeeds with is Jeff’s newfound passion (that I love as well). With Plenexia’s drug formula out in the open, Jeff is walking on air and thinking about his next target. Until Dominique gives him a pep talk and Richard Payne trashes his home, that is.

For the first time in a long time, it feels like Jeff has a solid storyline that fits him and would be sufficient for his character overall. Jeff’s money, contacts, free time, and determination to stick it to bad guys allow him the opportunity to create his own version of Bruce Wayne.

Let’s face it; it’s more satisfying for Jeff to take the aggressive approach and continue bringing down corrupt companies. However, taking a step back and switching his tactics saves himself and the employees caught in the cross-fire. I hope Michael Bradford is the first of many corrupt CEOs Jeff gets rid of.

Dynasty is continuing its run of impressive, fun, and character progression-driven episodes with its latest airing, and I hope the momentum continues.

Other Thoughts:

  • Kirby and Amanda are my favorite ship by far. But, as much as I love getting to see them have fun and explore the beginning of their relationship in this episode, I can’t help but feel like it won’t last. All of Kirby’s past storylines have led to pain, and as much as I hope it’ll be different this time, it’s still Dynasty. Nothing is ever set in stone.
It is thrilling to think of how close Amanda is to stripping Adam of his medical license.
  • Bringing Laura Van Kirk back into the fold only to kill her in the same episode is absolute genius. It also adds another body, whether he did it or not, to Adam’s list, thanks to his presence at the moment of her death. And he is the one who supplied the Bokocho extract to her, so technically, he does play a part in her death.
  • Fallon should have been allowed to slap Laura more than once for the despicable things coming out of her mouth.
  • Time and time again, Sam is given an intriguing storyline, only for it to be gone within five or six episodes if we’re lucky for it to last that long. I can only hope that his conversation with Culhane foreshadows a potential team-up between the two again. But, it better be something worthwhile.
  • With only nine episodes of the series left, it’s time to start wrapping up and thinking about endgames.
