Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling’s ‘The Gray Man’ Releases Action-Packed Trailer

News

The highly anticipated and star-studded The Gray Man film has been but a ghost, existing in excited whispers as we near its summer premiere date.

Now we officially have a trailer and a dozen reasons to get pumped about the action-packed venture from Netflix.

Starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, and Regé-Jean Page, the film follows the CIA’s “most skilled operative (Gosling) whose true identity is known to none” as he uncovers a dark secret about his employer.

When a psychopathic former colleague puts a bounty on his head, a global manhunt ensues, and the chaos of this good-looking ensemble is unleashed.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film’s first look draws many similarities to their superhero debut, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, with Chris Evans jumping on board the action thriller as our antagonist.

We’re living in the actor’s villain era, with de Armas even returning as his foil. Sadly the cable-knit sweaters will not return with this film favoring evil facial hair and striped polos.

The trailer acknowledges the mustache in the room moments after Evans’ Lloyd Hansen appears. “What gave it away?” he asks, diabolical Knives Out smile on full display. “The trash stache. It just, it leans Lloyd,” Gosling’s Gray Man retorts in their explosive first meeting.

Questionable staches aside, it’s clear from our first look that the quips will be sharp and the knives sharper with this latest villain entry from Evans.

Gosling plays our trusty heterosexual lead Court Gentry (yes, that’s actually his name), a.k.a. Sierra Six. A CIA operative who makes flipping over a car mid-gun fire look effortless.

The Gray Man‘s synopsis gives us more backstory, explaining Gosling’s mysterious leading man was “plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target.”

He’s the stoic assassin you typically see headlining these action films, and it’s yet to be seen what makes this ghostly Gray Man a threat.

But there’s no denying following up “Are you hurt?” with the line, “I mean, my ego’s a little bruised,” is a power move. It certainly grabs my attention.

As does de Armas, who will play Agent Dani Miranda, a trusted ally of the Gray Man and, by the looks of it, someone with a killer taste in patterned suits.

The film’s trailer also teases a mysterious thumb drive, a gaggle of fashionable assassins, and a startingly American Regé-Jean Page in glasses.

There is a lot to unpack here, that’s for sure.

In select theatres on July 15 and premiering on Netflix on July 22, The Gray Man looks to be a must-see summer movie for anyone that enjoys watching good-looking people blow things up.
