Good Trouble Review: So This is What the Truth Feels Like (Season 4 Episode 5)
The animosity and tension between characters is gone (for the most part) on Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 5 “So This is What the Truth Feels Like,” and it is replaced with confidence and lies, not necessarily in that order.
Before all the lying comes out, Davia looks to the members of the Coterie in a heartwarming opening montage to give her inspiration for her character and identity as a burlesque dancer. It’s cute, and they’re not wrong when they say she’s fierce, but it also hints that the episode might not be as heavy.
Also, while lying isn’t a new concept for Marianna, it is a bit of a surprise to see Malika lie to Angelica after their relationship trajectory has only been moving in a positive direction.

Talk about awkward! It is so uncomfortable to see all the girls from Revitalize Beauty and Bulk Beauty in the same space for a brand they are both trying to land. It gets even worse when Evan comes in because the history there is not the greatest.
Liza is paying extra attention, but what’s funny is that Marianna essentially won another pitch for Revitalize even though she was not so discreetly texting the FCG girls.
Speaking of lying, which seems to be the baseline for “So This is What the Truth Feels Like,” Malika is not playing a smart game here. She lies to Lucia, her new boss and Angelica’s ex, and says that Angelica isn’t seeing anyone which is so wrong.
These two need to get their stories straight because they are both horrible liars, and the repercussions of their actions are going to get in the way eventually.

During all this relationship and career drama, Gael and Isabella have slowly found their footing in their first attempt at a baby prep class. They’re back to agreeing with each other and supporting each other, or so it seems.
Gael isn’t blatantly lying to Isabella, but I do think it is time for him to be honest about what he wants and expects from her as well as how her friendship with Dennis makes him feel.
That bit of tension between them comes back for a moment when Gael shockingly suggests that they should find a place to live once the baby is born. It catches Isabella and us off guard; think of the love that child would have at the Coterie. The green monster is showing, and he only brings this up after witnessing a comforting moment between Isabella and Dennis.
This comfort happening with Isabella and Dennis is a huge breakthrough for Dennis. After running into his ex-wife and her new baby at the hospital, Dennis almost closes himself off again. It’s understandable and every time Good Trouble brings up Jacob, I start to get choked up.
However, Season 4, Episode 5 allows us to see how far Dennis has come and part of that is due to Isabella’s influence as of late.

I can’t talk about Season 4 Episode 5, and not talk about how great it is see Booboo Stewart’s character Luca back on the screen. While his opening scene involves him getting harassed on the street, his influence as a character is more powerful than he may realize.
It’s also interesting to see Luca without Joaquin and even though Joaquin is new in Season 4, his absence is felt slightly.
Is it too much to ask to have more scenes with Joaquin and Davia? Davia is in the zone, practicing, prepping, and learning to show all the parts of herself through her venture into Burlesque, and if anything, Luca boosted the confidence all the way to 100. This is an unexpected pairing, since Luca is currently omitting parts of himself while Davia is trying to display them.
Their conversation is so genuine and I think Davia would understand if Luca were to open up about his background to her. Davia stands up for herself and she has advocated for others on several occasions, and I feel such empowerment from her. Her journey of self-love has been a winding road and it brings me such joy to witness her newfound confidence.

Ultimately, the truth does come out. Marianna reveals to Evan (of all people) what she’s been doing and I honestly don’t know if him knowing will make things better or worse for her going forward.
Malika comes clean to Angelica and they both admit they’re falling for each other which is incredibly sweet, and I am looking forward to what will come next for them. What’s tricky now is that Malika’s proposal got approved, and Lucia is intent on making sure work is all Malika has time for, especially after seeing her and Angelica together.
There were several breakthroughs on Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 5 “So This is What the Truth Feels Like,” and I can’t wait to see more character development as the season moves forward.
