Good Trouble Review: Kiss Me and Smile for Me (Season 4 Episode 2)
Creepy dolls on a mantel with no context is certainly not the beginning we expected on Good Trouble Season 4, Episode 2, “Kiss Me and Smile for Me,” but as always, the build-up will be revealed and will be worth it.
“Kiss Me and Smile for Me” puts us in all our feelings, brings back beloved characters, taunts us with questions, and ultimately gives us that feel-good comfort we look forward to every week.
Moving past the dolls for a second, we’re thrilled to see this mama duo on our screens again. While Marianna is skeptical of their visit, the Coterie crew welcomes them lovingly, as they should.

There’s already a lot of tension bubbling up here, and we know Stef and Lena have something to share. It’s a little nerve-wracking, and it is unclear at first if the news is going to be about the two of them or someone else.
The mingling of all the residents with part of the Addams-Foster clan is something we deserve. This dinner really feels like a full-circle moment for the entire family, and we are excited to see that the girls are all grown, Stef and Lena are fostering Ka’maya, and Jude is typically spiraling about his sext life and long-distance relationship with Carter.
While waiting for someone to break the news, the group chimes in about texting etiquette which makes for light and easy millennial humor that this show does so well. It’s the perfect distraction for the looming news.

Callie is the one Addams-Foster that has never gone too far away from her family, so the fact that she’s moving across the country is a huge step.
Not only is her story in California done, but her story on screen is also done as well.
Callie is a key part of the show, but it makes sense that her story is ending here. She’s moving on to her dream job, and it would feel forced if she stayed and remained unhappy at a job going nowhere.

The goodbyes and memory talk get real emotional real fast. Callie has come so far in her journey on both Good Trouble and The Fosters, and working for the ACLU where she can thrive and tap into her full potential is the final piece of her character development.
While it’s upsetting to see her go, Callie is meant to leave. Her absence is something we will have to get used to, but her story would have fallen flat if it continued longer, plus, the remaining characters haven’t finished theirs yet.
Where it really gets us is when Stef mentions where all the Addam-Foster kids are in their lives and Callie’s final toast to the Coterie. Her words about making a chosen family of friends rather than the family you’re born into, speak volumes not only about her as a character, but the way this will resonate with so many people.

For only an hour-long episode, there’s such a wide range of emotions. The sadness in losing Callie is huge, but the comfort and happiness that we see from all the love in the characters also resonate.
The dolls! The parallel from the beginning of the episode to the end of what they represent for Callie and Marianna is so well done and meaningful.
“Kiss Me and Smile for Me” ends pretty close to perfect when none other than Jamie boarded the plane to D.C. after Callie. He also got a job there, so the fact that she won’t be alone and she’ll be with Jamie is swoon-worthy. They were always meant to be together, and now they have that happy ending.
