The Cleaning Lady Review: Mother’s Mission (Season 1 Episode 6)
As Garrett finds himself at a loss, things heat up between Thony and Arman on The Cleaning Lady Season 1 Episode 6, “Mother’s Mission.”
“Mother’s Mission,” while not The Cleaning Lady‘s best episode, is an excellent installment in terms of establishing the direction the show is heading in.
Family Ties

Fiona lets Thony know early on that hiding her double life from her was a mistake, and I have to agree. Thony keeping Fiona out of the loop is understandable but can cause tragic mishaps, like the deportation of a coworker and friend.
Martha Millan is excellent as Fiona, always knowing when to turn it up or reel it in, and “Mother’s Mission” is no different.
Fiona approaches Thony, knowing she is aware of her wrong, but Fiona also wants to make sure she hears it. And Thony does, given that by the end of the episode, she comes to Fiona instead of making a life-changing decision on her own.
Fiona offers her thoughts and perspective without making it seem like Thony has to do what she’s suggesting. She’s still firm in letting Thony know what’s wrong and right about it, though.

In the end, Thony decides she won’t operate on a child who has a very large chance of not making it out of the surgery, which is great, but what happened to the Thony that would do anything to save her kid? Children are off-limit, I can get behind — but her child isn’t?
It feels like a regression of Thony from The Cleaning Lady Season 1 Episode 5, “The Icebox.”
I’m thankful for seeing this out of Fiona. We know she’s a bit strict when it comes to her children (with good reason), but this is the first time we’ve seen her force Thony to face that what she’s doing affects more than just her.
Plus, with Marco returning home, I can only hope we’ll get the sibling dynamic we’ve been waiting for between these two.
That’s a Lot of Melons

Garrett once again leaps over the fence of “love to hate him” and lands firmly on the “hate to see him” patch of grass that’s been broken down and dying.
He somehow figures out, after only their first fakeout, that Arman and Thony are playing him. This is supposed to represent how good of an agent he is, as he even makes the comment himself, “God, I’m good,” but it just comes off as insufferable and egotistical.
As joyous as it is to see Garrett fail, and he sure did fail with the watermelon, the moment leaves your stomach fluttering with worry for Thony and Arman.
If Garrett isn’t afraid to have a noninvolved woman deported, how much further will he go to ensure he wins this case?
Dangling a cooperation visa in front of Thony, and not having told her about it from the beginning, is despicable. She’s been helping him for weeks, and now he remembers there’s something that could help her legal status? Gross.
Siri, Play Hot In Herre by Nelly

Sometimes I wish the rewind and fast-forward functions still sounded like they did on VHS Tapes, so everyone could know how many times I went back and watched that Thony/Arman kiss. Maybe, I’m thankful they don’t.
In a moment that’s been brewing since the series premiere, Thony and Arman finally throw caution to the wind and come extremely close to hooking up. I don’t support infidelity, but I also wouldn’t say no to another scene like that between the two.
This has been in the making for a while, except now that it’s happened, we all must face whatever consequences follow it. Of course, that means Marco’s reaction or even Fiona’s reaction… if we ever see them.
While I sincerely hope this doesn’t lead to a jump-the-shark storyline, I have faith that The Cleaning Lady knows what it is doing.
Stray Thoughts:
- I hope we, at some point, get back to the part where Fiona sold a bunch of drugs for her then-boyfriend.
- Arman kissing Thony’s forehead out of pure instinct… God, I love them.
- Each episode of The Cleaning Lady is a reminder that every single day people have to make unnecessary sacrifices for just a chance of living peacefully in the USA.
