And Just Like That Review: Seeing the Light (Season 1 Episode 10)
Carrie spreads Big’s ashes in the water under the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris on And Just Like That Season 1 Episode 10, “Seeing the Light.”
Huge fans of Sex and the City probably guessed that this is a location he could’ve ended up in, but as predictable as it is, it’s a satisfying enough destination. Plus, Carrie looks fabulous in her orange dress.
It’s as full-circle as And Just Like That will ever get, so there is that. But Carrie goes to Paris and comes back so quickly it gives me whiplash.

And Just Like That has many problems, but its biggest one might be that it’s in such a rush.
There is barely a point to having one character go to Paris alone, even the main character who has to complete a difficult task on her own. It’s absolutely maddening that someone thought a text message and an implied date for drinks is a stand-in for Samantha.
If And Just Like That would have just slowed down a little bit, it may have been able to come up with ways to tell the stories it wanted to tell in a way that made sense.
Instead, after a few minutes in Paris, we’re back in Manhattan recording the “Sex and the City” podcast and Carrie is kissing her boss. She’s healing. It’s great and she deserves to, but quick editing and time jumps only tell a good story when used sparingly.

Carrie’s story in the finale is so bumpy, yet it’s the only one really worth talking about.
Sara Ramirez has a wonderful voice but watching them sing “California Girls” to announce they’re going to Los Angeles to film a pilot makes me want to puke it’s so cheesy.
Thankfully, Miranda dyes her hair red again by the end of the finale. If she did not physically look similar to the person I once knew, her choices on the episode would make her unrecognizable.
Love is a wonderful thing. We should all make sacrifices for the people we love, but Che and Miranda are adults.

It’s so ridiculous that only Carrie says out loud that it’s dumb of Miranda to give up a career opportunity to watch Che film a TV show that may or may not see the light of day.
Does it even need to be said that Che absolutely does not deserve a television show?
Charlotte’s bat mitzvah confuses me and Rock refusing any label at all from “Jewish” to “New Yorker” is extreme. They sound like they don’t want to own the fact that they like anything at all. But non-binary shouldn’t mean they don’t have a personality and a spirit.

Every other character is a pathetic excuse for And Just Like That to pretend it cares about authentic representation so there is not much more to say.
I had a lot of hope for And Just Like That but just like that my hope was dashed because of messy storytelling.
Someone throw the whole series over the Pont des Arts, please. Rest in peace and don’t come back.
