Yellowjackets Review: Saints (Season 1 Episode 6)
With some help from Laura Lee, Lottie comes to terms with her abilities on Yellowjackets Season 1 Episode 6, “Saints.”
At this point, at least a month has gone by, allowing enough tension to build up between everyone. Exploring your sexuality is part of being a teenager, so it’s no shock that the teenagers begin experimenting with one another.
Natalie and Travis’ growing relationship is adorable, along with Van and Taissa’s. It’s nice that while they’re stranded and all alone, they can form some bond with one another to form a sense of safety.
However, in the long run, the relationships formed could cause strain on the group as a whole. It could possibly be a reason for their future separation into rival clans.

Despite the growing frustrations between the teens and drama of their adult versions, Lottie’s revelation is the highlight of “Saints.”
Since the pilot, it’s been teased that Lottie deals with some form of disorder, with schizophrenia being the primary hypothesis. But, as it turns out, the medication forced on her may have prevented her from having visions rather than treating an actual disorder.
Since she was a young child, Lottie’s had the ability, with her first encounter being in the car with her mother and father.
If it weren’t for Lottie’s ability, the three would have died being hit by a semi-truck that ran a red light. Her mother understands that she could share a connection to the supernatural in some way, but her father is the one who insists on putting her on medication.

Being in the woods with no medication to cloud her thoughts has been one of the best things for Lottie, even if she may not realize it yet. It allows her to walk freely, giving her the chance to figure out what’s truly going on.
Lottie’s ability to see glimpses into the future could come in handy and decide between life and death. Because of this realization, I’m doubling down on my hypothesis that Lottie is the Antler Queen.
Laura Lee’s bonding session with Lottie is quite unexpected, seeing how deeply religious she is. Nevertheless, it’s sweet. Lottie has been quietly losing her mind, thinking that she’s just crazy, but Laura Lee is the first one to sit and talk about those feelings with her.
The energy between the two needs to be spoken about as well. It could be a case of over-examination, but there’s unspoken energy between the two. The energy that could develop into a potential relationship as time moves on.

If Laura Lee thinks that God has touched Lottie, it will make sense for her and Lottie to grow closer.
The consensus with Jeff is that he’s a cheater who doesn’t deserve Shauna, which is partly why her relationship with Adam is encouraged. But, after his speech with Jackie’s parents, Shauna may have jumped the gun.
Jeff’s not off the hook just yet, but nobody who’s cheating would go out of their way to prove the worth of their wife to the parents of their girlfriend in high school, whether she died or not. It just doesn’t seem plausible.

It’s still suspicious for Jeff to leave late at night to go to work, but there could be valid explanations. All that’s seen of Jeff “cheating” is him holding a gift with another woman in a hotel. Yes, it’s weird that he’s meeting a woman at a hotel to pick something up. But, besides that and the late nights at work, nothing else points towards him cheating.
On the other hand, Shauna is going to have to watch herself. Randy may classify himself as no narc, but he and Jeff go way back, so him mentioning that he saw Shauna at a motel is a great potential.
The second most significant revelation of “Saints” is Taissa disassociating. It’s clear that this is an issue that began after being stranded in the woods. Her teenage self isn’t fully aware of the situation yet, but it shouldn’t be long before Lottie confirms it to her. But that begs the question: why is she so hard on Sammy?

If Taissa is aware that she was disassociating as a teenager, she has to know that it’s possible as an adult. Sammy has been yelled at, accused of doing horrible things, and is being vilified by Taissa when it’s been her all along.
With only four episodes left in the season, I hope that Yellowjackets can pick up the pace a bit as we get to the end.
The series pulls back the layers of the figurative onion, slowly revealing info here and there. But, nothing majorly telling about their time in the woods has been in the spotlight. Viewers still know virtually nothing of what happened while they were stranded.
Other Thoughts:
- When Lottie lights the candles on the stairs, they turn from white to black, which is obvious symbolism for something. Could this mean that Lottie’s connection with the supernatural is inherently dark? Also, where is this tunnel located? If she sees the deer in an abandoned tunnel, it can’t be too far from where they are.
- It could just be an oversight by the props department, but if viewers are to go off of Jackie’s notebook that Shauna examines, Jackie doesn’t die in the wild. The references in her notebook date to 2000, which is four years after their initial crash, and two and a half years after their rescue.
- Jeff blurting to Jackie’s parents that he and Shauna were sleeping together as kids is chaotic and messy, but I love it. They were treating Shauna like the gum on the bottom of their shoe for no reason. If there’s that much hatred towards her, why continue to invite her over year after year?
- I wish I could say that Misty drugging and kidnapping Jessica Roberts is a genuine shock, but it isn’t. What’s interesting about the situation is how Misty will react after getting the answers she’s looking for. I wonder, will she snap when she finds out that Taissa is the one who hired Jessica?
- Natalie and Kevyn’s bonding moments are magical. My only hope is that Misty doesn’t do something to jeopardize the relationship between them.
Favorite Quotes:
- “I’m in the middle of nowhere, and the ob-gyn on call is Misty fucking Quigley.” – Shauna.
- “No, we mostly talk about how Danny Mears dumped you for his own cousin.” – Lottie.
- “I don’t think you’re crazy. You’ve been through a lot. And that’s okay with me.” – Kevyn.
